26 April 2025

Aston Martin HeritageMember event

Us Porsche drivers are allowed – on special occasions – to fraternise with the enemy. So, on Saturday 26th April we are off to Aston Martin Heritage (Wallingford, OX10 7BG). Bring your string-backed driving gloves and pipe tobacco with you. Or your finest Sean Connery impression.

Porsche AG is a mere stripling compared with the 110 years of Aston Martin’s long (and occasionally checkered) history. The Aston Martin Heritage Trust accommodates a wonderful collection of cars where men in buff overalls lovingly cherish and care for an ever-expanding array of Aston Martins. The museum part of the Trust boasts a wide range of artefacts and documents, dating from the original Bamford & Martin era all the way to up-to-date designs for the latest Geneva Show. This historic archive plots and illuminates the rich story of Aston Martin: its people, its culture and, of course, its cars.

For those with an engineering bent, you can clutch at your imaginary tappet shims and pressure gauges as you drink in display after display of classic straight sixes, Tadek Marek V8s and even V12s that have propelled so many of the classic Astons of which, even us Porschisti, are so very fond.  In an increasingly EV-driven, hi-tech world the smell of machined metal and engine oil is warmly comforting… if you like that kind of thing, of course.
