May Sunday Run, Lochter to Aberlour

May 29, A sunny Sunday Run across the Northeast via the Cabrach.

For this month's Sunday Run we met at the Lochter Activity Centre at Oldmeldrum. We were well looked after and provided with tea, cofee and bacon rolls to start the day. The Centre's resident osprey family could be viewed on screens in the main restaurant and seemed to be enjoying the good weather.

Our route took us north to the edge of Turriff and then west, crossing the A96 at Huntly and continuing via Rhynie to the A941. This road crosses the high moorland parish of The Cabrach to Dufftown, from where we continued to Aberlour and the welcoming Dowans Hotel.

We have some history with the Dowans, it being the venue of one of our Weekends-of-the-Year in the past, and we've visited on a weekend run since then too. This time was every bit as enjoyable as our previous visits with a wide choice of meals on offer in very comfortable surroundings. Their Whisky display room is also very impressive - I had to be dragged away....

Everyone, including recent new members Dave Knott and Darren Hall, seemed to have enjoyed the day.
