Sunday Winter Tyre Test Run

Last Sunday, 15 Feb seven cars took to the hills to shake off the winter cobwebs.

More pictures & a video of this run can be seen at Paul Barlow's website, HERE.

Although the run was billed as a "Winter Tyre Test" the roads were clear of snow... Plenty of mud though!

We met up at Inchmarlo Golf Club in Banchory for some excellent coffee and bacon rolls, and after introductions, set off, first heading for the Cairn o' Mount road.  The proposed photo opportunity stop at the viewpoint carpark was a bust - Phil, our leader, missed it in the fog, and everyone else used their common sense to just keep going too. We'd have been hard pressed to photograph each other, let alone a view!

Descending into Fettercairn the fog cleared, and somehow Frank & Susan Bowser-Riley had taken over the lead. They showed us all to an unexpected route from Fettercairn direct to Kirriemuir, avoiding the A90 dual carriageway.  Much more scenic, if a little muddy!

From Kirriemuir on to a fine lunch at the Dalmore Inn in Blairgowrie for some social time and to prepare for the run back.

From Blairgowrie we headed straight up the A93 through Glenshee, pausing at the busy ski area for a few photos in the cold wind before continuing to Ballater and Braemar.  Cake and a cuppa at the cafe in Ballater before heading home.

Another good run, and Robin & Cherry Provan have volounteered to arrange the next Sunday Run in March, so watch the Events listing on this site for more on that.
