Our Regional Weekend of the Year, the legendary Gain-an-Hour weekend, is back for 2024 - its 19th year.
For those of you new to Gain-an-Hour, it falls on the last weekend of British Summer Time when the clocks go back - hence the name. BUT - there's always a bit of mystery about the exact location - until you have registered.
The format of the weekend’s activities involves a big group of us heading away for a long weekend somewhere beautiful, but with a very relaxed nature. You can choose to come just for the weekend and arrive on the Friday night or, if you can get away earlier, you can arrive on the Thursday night for an extra day of adventuring, which is what most do.
There are suggested driving routes but no itinerary to cramp your style - you can head off on a day’s adventure where you want, when you want, on your own or with others.
The Thursday and Friday evenings are equally relaxed - people arrive back at the hotel from days out as and when they like and make dinner arrangements as they please. It’s a perfect opportunity to catch up with friends old and new. The lounge bar is usually a central hub for R2 in the evenings.
The Saturday night invariably involves a sit down three-course meal where we all eat together and party till late. This is where the gained hour comes in handy! As always, there will be speeches, awards, the passing of the quaichs and more!
Costs are per room, based on a couple sharing, inclusive of party night dinner.
Friday night and Saturday night, bed and breakfast, plus dinner on Saturday night is £488. This gives you a driving day and party on Saturday night, checkout and home Sunday.
Those of you who are able to get away earlier can stay Thursday night, also on a bed and breakfast basis, with the three-night package including Saturday's dinner priced at £687. This gives you two driving days (Friday and Saturday), the party on the Saturday night, checkout and home Sunday.
There is also a £20 per car registration fee which covers the production of Rally plates, Welcome Packs, Dinner Prizes etc. On payment of the registration fee, you will receive details of the venue and the booking procedure. Your hotel booking will be direct with the hotel but at a special Porsche Club GB negotiated rate.
