Laon Historique is the largest and most popular weekend event of its kind in Europe – 850 vintage, classic, sports and kit cars enjoying a fabulous drive in the country on Saturday and a parade on Sunday through the medieval streets of this former French capital city. But that’s not all! 
 
North West Region has put together an extended Northern France itinerary (see below*) from Thursday 13 to Wednesday 19 May 2027 with visits to WW1 and WW2 sites of significance, Reims Motor Museum, a Moet et Chandon Grand Vintage Champagne Tour, and a trip to Monet’s House and Garden at Giverny.
 
Co-ordinated by the North West Region, but with your direct booking with Scenic Car Tours, on Thursday we travel in convoy from Cheshire to Le Shuttle, crossing to just beyond Calais for our first night’s hotel stay.
 
There are various options for our Friday that include a V2 missile bunker and WW1 trenches and tunnels before we reach our four-star lakeside accommodation (with restaurant) outside Laon, which lies northwest of Reims and northeast of Paris. We settle in here for four nights of luxury.
 
On Saturday we join the two organised runs from Laon into the French countryside, one before lunch, and one after, using just the Tulip books provided – no need for technology here!
 
Laon’s streets are closed to all other traffic on Sunday. Our cars form part of the biggest vehicle procession you can imagine in a 6km parade around the town, as the many spectators cheer us by.
 
Although Scenic Car Tours organise an optional Monday Morning Run at extra cost, which you can choose if you wish, North West Region suggests that you might prefer our morning visit to Reims-Champagne Automobile Museum, followed by an afternoon cellar tour and tasting at the iconic Moet et Chandon Champagne House in Epernay.
 
Making full use of our journey back towards our final night’s hotel in Montreuil-Sur-Mer, on Tuesday, you can choose between visiting a number of historic WW1 sights on the Somme Remembrance Trail or you might prefer to discover Monet’s world at Giverny. Stroll through his vibrant gardens, admire the lily ponds and explore his beautifully preserved home. 
 
On Wednesday, it’s home time. It’s just a short 43 miles drive to Eurotunnel, Calais, where we pick up our morning Le Shuttle crossing, then it’s back to driving on the left as we return to Cheshire, brimming with happy memories!!
 
If you wish to extend your French stay and perhaps not return towards the North, ask Scenic Car Tours at the time of booking to make your personal adjustments to the tour package – they’re happy to do so, as long as you pay any excess costs of course!

The arrangements outside those contracted for with Scenic Car Tours are not obligatory / compulsory and are provided as suggestions only. The itinerary will be fluid and may be subject to change and will always be subject to availability. Visits to certain attractions and sites of interest may be excluded where detailed route planning suggests that there is insufficient time available.

Two sharing tour price: £1,299 per person

Single person in a double room: £2,098
Using their own car throughout (£500 reduction vs total two-person cost)

Prices based on standard rooms: supplement may apply if only upgrade rooms available depending on time of booking.
