2 - 6 July 2020

Le Mans Classic

A new event for Region 5 in 2020, please find all the booking details below.

The Region 5 organising committee, together with the 991 and 992 Registers, is excited to announce that it has made arrangements, via PCGB partners Lycian Events, for a group trip to the iconic Le Mans 24 Hour Classic event which is taking place on 4-5 July 2020.
Held every two years, 2020 will be the 10th Le Mans Classic to date. It is one of the greatest historic motor racing events where you will see cars that took part in the race between 1923 and 1979. In total, it is expected there will be more than 350 participants. The cars, divided into six grids each representing a different era, will follow each other on the track, hour-after-hour, for 24 hours. The race start will take the form of a traditional Le Mans start and, in keeping with that tradition, will be at 4pm on Saturday with the finish 24 hours later. In addition to an exhibition of an array of wonderful cars, this international historic car meeting will also feature a parade of European clubs on the long circuit plus an auction of collectors' cars and automobilia.
We will be staying at Lycian Events’ secure campsite - the ‘Village on the Curves’. The site includes excellent security, plus a regular shuttle bus service to the paddock entrance of the circuit and to the tram stop with its regular services to Le Mans city centre. Located on the inside of the iconic Porsche Curves, the ‘Village’ opens on the Wednesday before the event with the restaurant and bar available. There are designated 35 square metre pitches for single vehicles, with up to four guests, ensuring that you have your own, albeit small, private space. The site also includes toilets and showers - for those that require it, there is even a pamper tent complete with hair dryers and mirrors! The reception marquee boasts three 50" HD TVs and a bar area, with bistro-catering providing meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Lycian Events can provide:

  • Return ferry crossings
  • General admission tickets
  • Superb trackside viewing on the iconic Porsche Curves
  • Secure fenced site with 24-hour English speaking security
  • Lycian representatives available throughout the weekend
  • Large pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans
  • Marquee with wide screen televisions to cover the 24-hour race
  • Dining at Café Virage
  • Exclusive use of the ‘Village’ by participants and guests
  • Cash bar with draught beers
  • Private serviced toilets and hot shower facilities

The following confirmed 2020 Classic prices include a PCGB discount of £25 per pitch – the price is based on two people per pitch with a standard car.

Race tickets and camping:
£355pp (includes general entrance and paddock tickets)

Crossings can be arranged to suit your personal requirements however, by way of an example, a number of us are planning to travel via the Portsmouth/Cherbourg fast ferry route outbound on Thursday 2 July at 9am and returning on Monday 6 July at 5pm. The additional cost for this will be £350 per car.

There are however many other travel options including the overnight ferry to Caen, as well as Dover to Calais or Folkestone to Calais. Lycian Evens will be pleased to provide you with a quote for the crossing of your choice.

Accommodation supplement options:
There are a number of different camping options, as well as the opportunity to take or hire a motor home/caravan on site from Lycian. The camping options are:
  • Two person pre-erected tent £165
  • Four person pre-erected tent £225
  • Village Belle glamping option £550
You can, of course, take your own tent for no extra cost. However, please check with Lycian that your tent will fit on the pitch.

  • Sommer £59
  • Lagache £59
  • Leonard £59
  • Tavano £59
  • ACO £39

Proposed itinerary:
You are free to make your own arrangements and plans for the weekend, there will be no fixed itinerary. However, a number of us plan to drive down to Portsmouth together after work on Wednesday 1 July and stay overnight at the Travelodge opposite Portsmouth dock. We will then take the 9am fast ferry to Cherbourg on Thursday and return on the fast ferry from Cherbourg back to Portsmouth on Monday.

If you would like to join us for this fabulous informal weekend, we would recommend that you book your crossings with Joy or Saskia at Lycian Events as soon as possible, given that the availability is limited and although Brittany Ferries have only just released the prices we understand that they are selling out fast. All Lycian Events need at this stage is a £100pp deposit. Inform Joy or Saskia that you are part of Martin Davis’ Region 5/991 and 992 Register group to benefit from the small Porsche Club discount and we will all be grouped together on site.
