This a one-off event and has kindly been organised by R22 member Ben Satterthwaite and we have exclusive access to the airbase
RAF Spadeadam, Gilsland, Brampton CA8 7AT
This will be on a first come first served basis. A reserve list will be created
RAF Spadeadam is a Royal Air Force station in Cumbria, England, close to the border with Northumberland. It is the home of the 9,000 acre electronic warfare tactics range, making it the largest RAF base in the United Kingdom. Its primary use is for EW training to the RAF and NATO allies.
Evening Itinerary
We have been kindly invited onto the airbase. Numbers will be to strictly limit the number of cars to 50 cars. On arrival we will and then have an orderly convoy of cars and then proceed following the base speed limit to Prior Lancy and then Graymere stopping at each location for talk on history of SPD / Bluestreak we will have a photo opportunity of individual’s cars next to something interesting. At each of the two locations which will be rocket pads, SA-6 TEL mock up, Soviet army truck and other military hardware before concluding no later than 10.30pm.
Timings:
- 7pm - Members arrive in their cars at MGR and directed to Visitors Car Park
- 7.10pm - Welcome and safety brief / visit plan / rules for the visit
- o/c - Depart in convoy to Prior Lancy
- 8pm - Depart Prior Lancy for Graymere
- 8.45pm - Club business / visit wrap up
- 9pm - Depart Graymere for MGR and onward dispersal off camp
The above timings are flexible but should give people approximately three quarters of an hour at each location which should enough time for car photos and the history talk.
