Porkers in the Trough VI
For any PCGB member that has never done Porkers in the Trough you are missing a great day out. Organised by Region 18 (Lancashire & Cumbria) this is an annual scenic drive through the Trough of Bowland to raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, based at Royal Preston Hospital.
We meet early at Garstang Country Hotel & Golf Club for bacon butties (sorry bacon barmcakes, we’re in Lancashire). We’re given our roadbook with route instructions and usually a quiz to do throughout the day. We are set off in small groups so as not to clog up the country roads of the Trough. Following our roadbook (or the car in front) we travel through the Trough of Bowland to our stop off point. This is a tourist attraction of some sort, usually a stately home, we’ve had some beautiful stops in recent years. We have time to spend wandering around the cars, or the house and a chance to grab a spot of lunch, usually a picnic, before heading back to Garstang for awards. The organisers are very imaginative with their prizes and awards; car with the most flies for example or greatest age of car plus occupants are just a few. Prizes are usually Porker related.
This year’s stop was at Townley Hall, Burnley. Next years run will be on July 10th with a run to Astley Hall, Chorley.
