We joined members from North Wales for part of their journey home
Region 6, North Wales, stayed at Slaley Hall for their WOTY this year. Having suggested some good driving roads for them during their visit, they invited us to join them for part of their journey home. We accepted the invitation to escort them out of the North East. Our local knowledge came in handy when their planned route over Stanhope Moors was blocked by a major cycle race. Having rerouted we were soon back on track, through the North Pennines AONB to Brough and on to the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale, where R6 had booked lunch. Having said our goodbyes R3 members continued on to the Wensleydale Creamery for a late lunch. Our route home took us through Buttertubs Pass and past the Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in Britain. Although there was a yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms in place, we all made it home with soft tops down. A great day, now to plan our visit to North Wales.
