Now that the events season is underway, R27 took to the Ards Peninsula to enjoy the clement weather that the month of May often brings. With the Irish Sea on one side and Strangford Lough on the other, navigating the back roads of this part of Northern Ireland brought both scenic views and good opportunities to test the driving skills of R27 members - never has PASM been more welcome!
Four litres of flat-six goodness enjoying the drive season
After a brief stop enroute, being only a short distance from the historic Kirkistown Motor Racing Circuit, the Saltwater Brig restaurant welcomed nearly 30 cars and over 40 people with fine food and hospitality and a chance to (almost) hear the sounds of racing in the distance. Joining the Region on the drive was Porsche Centre Belfast Sales Executive James McLaughlin in a beautiful 718 Cayman GTS as part of his initiative to garner links between Porsche Centre and Club. Thanks for coming along James, you and Porsche Belfast are welcome anytime.

Zuffenhausen
As Porsche is celebrating the 75th anniversary of car production, now would seem an appropriate time to visit Zuffenhausen. With the excellent museum and factory centrally located at Porscheplatz (and the S6 train line running alongside), access is very straightforward from Stuttgart city centre. Indeed, transport to the museum of the three-pointed star is also easy, but that is for another magazine.

Two shots of where it all started – the Ferdinand Porsche ‘Birth House’
The Birth House
Staying with the history of Porsche, you may wish to branch out and make a trip to Liberec in the Czech Republic where the genesis of the marque is located in the Ferdinand Porsche Birth House museum. To be expected, while not as large as the one in Stuttgart, the venue nonetheless provides rarely seen and informative historical texts and exhibits, worth a visit not only for insight to the early years of the brand but also to give some context to the societal background of Porsche.
As the drive season with R27 continues, here’s some common-sense points to keep in mind:
1. Drive with care, courtesy, and consideration for other road users.
2. No overtaking please, unless for safety reasons.
3. Observe all speed limits, road signs and Highway Code rules.
4. Please follow the drive captain, especially if unsure of the route.
Until next time: “Wer hat dir gesagt, dass du die bremsen benutzen sollst, du sollst einfach fahren!”
(“Who told you to use the brakes, you should just drive!”)
