Mid-June and a lucky day with the weather. It's a beautiful time of year to be on a country road. Slightly overgrown verges with wildflowers poking through. Rural cottages and hanging baskets, blue sky interspersed with fluffy cumulonimbus. Sweet smells of mown lawns and early crops in the fields. The roar of flat sixes! We had a nice group of 8 cars hustling along from Great Leighs up to Steeple Bumpsted, then Haverhill followed by the back roads up to Newmarket. For lunch we stopped at the Bell at Kennett where we enjoyed a VERY large Sunday lunch. The puddings were definitely a highlight, as was lounging on their patio. Then back through Lidgate, Clare, Wethersfield, and the Castle at Great Leighs for those that had the stamina. If only all days could be like this.
