Porsche Pageant

The annual R8 get together at the Cromford Mills Showground

Held in the delightful setting of Cromford Mill near Matlock we got off to a terrific start with a 7.15am phone call stating that the car parking team’s car had broken down! Sarah and I were already en route with cars packed to the rafters with pageant paraphernalia, we had to use our ‘Tetris’ skills to fit three burly chaps plus car park stakes, flags and signs in to our cars. Squeezed in tight we all made it. We were joined by Paul from One 2 One Audio with a great display of audio equipment (and a wonderful raffle prize donation) Daz and Tracey with their fabulous fabrications which prove with a bit of imagination many wonderful things can be created with materials which might have been thrown away, and OPC Nottingham who brought three new cars, their van and marquee with them. I believe the Porsche merchandise sold very quickly. The weather gods were not kind to us, so our numbers were a little down, with some 130 cars in attendance, but nonetheless there was some terrific machinery on show and the concours had some superb entries. Some of the hardy R8’ers sat outside their cars and had their picnics in the rain – they are made of tough stuff those folks! The concours winners were:

Visitors Class
First: Philip Ward - 718 Boxster S
Second: Matt Booker - 997
Third Stuart Sunderland - 986 Boxster

R8 Air-cooled
First: Richard Grout - 911/964 back date
Second: Place Tim Court - 356

R8 Water-cooled
First: Graham Rose - 924 Turbo
Second: Craig Johnson - 996
Third: Wayne Smith - 981 GTS

Regional Champion
Graham Rose - 924 Turbo

Well done to all who took part and the magnificent effort that they made, and to the concours judges, Mike, Kieron, Paul and Tom who gave up their time to adjudicate at the show.
