Earlier this month, Club partners Collecting Cars surpassed a significant milestone, with their team having now sold more than 2,000 Porsche 911s. This impressive tally includes cars sold from 35 different countries around the world, with more than 1,400 from the UK, over 400 in the EU, and more than 150 in Australia and New Zealand. The average price of a 911 sold on platform is just over £79,000 (approx. €95,000 or $A155,000).
The most popular 911 generation to find a new home via the platform is the 997, with more than 400 sales to date. This is closely followed by the 996 (350+ sales) and the 993 (250+ sales). Reflecting its position as one of the most usable and affordable classic sports cars, no fewer than 125 examples of the 911 Carrera 3.2 have also been sold, ranging from project cars through to a remarkable Club Sport model with fewer than 3,000 miles from new.
911 Turbo and 911 RS sales
More than 350 examples of the 911 Turbo have also been sold, with every model generation represented. Among around 70 variants of the 930 Turbo sold, there have been two cars from the very first year of production (1975) right through to nearly a dozen examples of the final-year 1989 car with the five-speed G50 gearbox.
Well over 100 examples of factory ‘Rennsport’ 911s have also found new homes, including seven of the hallowed 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7, with one car previously owned by Jay Kay of Jamiroquai selling for £430,000. Nearly 40 examples of the 991 GT3 RS have been sold, with the most expensive being a low-mileage 991.2 equipped with the Weissach Pack, which achieved €229,500.
Record prices for Porsche 911s
At the time of writing, the 911 sales have included no fewer than four record prices. In June 2022, Collecting Cars sold a very special 996 Turbo S; one of only around 80 such cars delivered to the UK with the manual gearbox, but also finished in Paint-to-Sample Horizon Blue. With just over 9,000 miles on the clock, it achieved a winning bid of £85,500 (UK auction record). In March 2023, the platform sold a 992 GT3 Touring in rare ‘70 Years Porsche Australia Edition’ specification, with the hammer falling at AU$670,500 (approx. US$445,000, a world auction record).
In early 2024, a highly sought-after 993 Carrera RS came to market in the UK, which was likely unrepeatable having just one owner and 10,734 miles from new – and it sold for £456,000, achieving another world auction record. In June 2024, Collecting Cars concluded a pre-auction sale of an exceptional 911 Carrera 3.2 Club Sport with just 2,559 miles on the clock, achieving a UK public sale record of £250,000.
The most expensive 911 ever sold on Collecting Cars was this 1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer (one of five Singer builds sold via the platform to date). This example was one of very few Targa models crafted by the California company, equipped with the 390hp 4.0-litre flat-six and five-speed G50 gearbox, and finished in the striking combination of Blue Blood paintwork over Deep Orange upholstery. It was sold for £800,000.
