Gale force winds, torrential rain and uncharacteristically cold temperatures didn’t stop Porsche Club members from having a great time at Silverstone, with stunning collections of member-owned Porsches each and every day of the Festival.
This year saw the Club make a welcome return to the centre of the Festival, located on the grass infield of Brooklands corner, with trackside viewing available immediately after parking up. Or for those seeking shelter from the elements when conditions were “less than favourable”, they could wait it out in the Club marquee and warm up with a cup of tea and coffee.
There was a special treat on Saturday morning when the bad weather forced Wheeler Dealers’ hosts Mike Brewer and Marc 'Elvis' Priestley to abandon their original plans to take a walking tour of the Porsches on display, and instead hold an impromptu talk in the crowded Club marquee. Both huge Porsche fans, they recalled stories of the cars they’ve worked on together, Porsches they’ve owned themselves and interviewed some of our members to hear their passion for the marque,
We need to say a huge thank you to the small team of volunteers who guided each and every Porsche into place, with Register parking areas, a special display of 911 Turbos and GT3s for their respective anniversaries and early air-cooled cars in front of the marquee.
On a more poignant note, this was the Club’s first time at Silverstone without Jo Walker, who sadly passed away in June this year. In previous years, Jo would hold court in our hospitality area and strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone. Jo’s husband Robin was of course in attendance in their Sky Blue 356, and there was a constant queue of people wanting to wish him well and pay their respects to Jo.

We hope you can join us at a Club event in the near future. There’s plenty to choose from in the coming weeks, with our largest event of the year; Classics at the Castle, taking place at Hedingham Castle in Essex on Sunday, 15 September.
Open to all Porsche owners and Porsche enthusiasts, the castle grounds will be full of Porsches of all ages with special celebrations for classic models, anniversary displays for the Turbo, G-Model and GT3.
