The new Porsche Taycan has won Best Electric Performance Car in the What Car? Electric Car of the Year Awards. It marks the fourth year running that the fully electric model has been granted the coveted accolade.
The continued recognition for the Taycan was supported by an extensive update earlier in the year, equipping the car with more power, increased range, and faster charging. The new Taycan also features sharpened styling, higher levels of standard equipment, and an updated driver interface. In further refining the already class-leading EV, development vehicles covered more than two million miles in locations around the world.
The rear-wheel-drive Taycan accelerates to 62mph in 4.8 seconds – 0.6 seconds faster than before – while the newly introduced Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package brings the sprint down to just 2.2 seconds. Despite its higher performance, range has increased by up to 35 per cent, while a 10 to 80 per cent charge can now take just 18 minutes, thanks to charging speeds of up to 320kW. In fact, the updated car achieves its high charge rate in much wider window of temperatures, giving owners even greater everyday usability. As before, the Taycan is available in saloon, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo body styles, and a variety of power outputs.
What Car? has tested every electric car on sale and, in choosing the Taycan as its ‘Electric Performance Car of the Year’, said, "The Taycan was already superior to all of its rivals, but following the recent refresh, it's better than ever. Larger and more efficient batteries have obviously resulted in a big increase in range. But just as significant is the decision to make air suspension standard across the line-up, because this improves both handling and comfort. While other electric performance cars fall short of the best petrol models when it comes to driving fun, the Taycan absolutely doesn’t."
Krishan Bodhani, Chief Executive Officer, Porsche Cars Great Britain, said: "The Porsche Taycan has proved popular in the UK since its launch. High performance, outstanding driving dynamics and an unmistakeable visual identity make it a compelling proposition, and the new model raises the bar even further – its increased range and ultra-rapid charging make long-distance driving effortless. The What Car? award cements its position as the ultimate EV for those who love driving."
The recognition from What Car? follows the car‘s success in the Auto Express New Car Awards 2024, where the model picked up the honour of Premium Electric Car of the Year. Meanwhile, in a host of awards for the car in 2024, Top Gear magazine awarded the Taycan Turbo GT with Best Performance EV, while technology publication T3 named the Taycan its Best Electric Car.
