Former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button has revealed he will make his debut in the IMSA Sportscar Championship later this year, behind the wheel of a Porsche 963.
“I’m very excited to announce that I will be racing at Petit LeMans this year with 2021 Sebring winners JDC.
“Whilst I’m having a lot of fun cutting my teeth in Nascar this year, a prototype with high downforce is definitely more my comfort zone! That said the 963, the IMSA championship and the Road Atlanta track are all brand new to me so I can’t wait to tackle all three with my teammates for the weekend.”
Button will be reunited with Mike Rockenfeller, who he shared the fan favourite Garage 56 NASCAR Next Gen Camaro run by Hendrick Motorsports at Le Mans earlier this summer.
This may be Jenson’s first time in a prototype Porsche, but he’s no stranger to high-powered Porsches, previously owning a 964 Turbo 3.6 X88, which was sold through Collecting Cars in September 2021.
