Drill Driver - the world's lightest 911

Matt Master marvels at the method and the mania behind the world’s lightest 911

Standing outside the Golden Lion on Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, the wind howling down the empty high street and horizontal rain lashing the pub’s curtained windows, you’d be forgiven for thinking this wasn’t the epicentre of one of the most exciting Porsche projects currently being undertaken anywhere in the world.

But ring the bell, give it a minute or two, and you find yourself in an Aladdin’s cave of rare Porsche parts and paraphernalia stacked on shelves and hanging from every available inch of wall space. From early 356 steering wheels and complete exhaust systems to original steel wheels and service manuals. A wood burner roars beneath period posters, its orange glow reflecting in chrome hub caps and over riders, old oil cans and highly polished engine badges. But we’re not here for any of this.
