Brian Redman vying for pole in this year’s Motor Sport Hall of Fame

Legendary racing driver and winner of the 1970 Targa Florio nominated for prestigious award.

Sports car racing driver Brian Redman is vying for pole position for this year’s Motor Sport Hall of Fame Awards. The prestigious ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 7th June in the spectacular surroundings of the Royal Automobile Club, but it’s all down to public vote.

Twelve greats from the rich world of sports cars have been chosen with the help of 2016 inductee and five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell. One of the front runners is racing legend Brian Redman, synonymous with sports car racing and Porsche.

Name a competitive sports racing car of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and chances are good that Redman drove it! His CV includes time behind the wheel of the Ford GT40, the Porsche 917K, 908/2-908/3-935-936-962, BMW CSL (winning Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours) Lola T70, and the Aston Martin AMR 1 to name but a few.

Redman was very successful in sportscar racing and the World Sportscar Championship, winning the Daytona 24 Hours three times, Sebring 12 Hours twice, the Nurburgring 1000 Ks twice, Monza 1000 Ks twice, Österreichring twice, Watkins Glen, the 1970 Targa Florio with a Porsche 908/3 and the Spa-Francorchamps 1000km race 4 times (1968–1972).

He also participated in 15 World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 1st January 1968; he achieved one podium in the 1968 Spanish Grand Prix finishing third in a Cooper-BRM.

Last year Redman launched his long-awaited book; “Brian Redman: Daring Drivers, Deadly Tracks”, which was an instant sell-out success and went on to win the Royal Automobile Motoring Book of the Year Award.
