The inaugural Motor Sport Hall of Fame first took place in February 2010. Its eight founding members – Tazio Nuvolari, Enzo Ferrari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, and Michael Schumacher – were adopted, and then, for the inaugural ceremony, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, Tony Brooks and Ron Dennis were inducted. Each year four more racing luminaries are welcomed to the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame.
This year, five times Le Mans 24 Hours winner and honorary Porsche Club GB member Derek Bell MBE, has been shortlisted in the Sports car category. This is a fiercely competitive category which sees Derek pitted amongst Vic Elford, Gilles Villeneuve, Brian Redman and Allan McNish to name just a few.
Derek played a key role at the Club’s 2013 Festival or Porshe at Brands Hatch, where along with Richard Atwood, he drove some of Porsche’s most famous and historic racing cars. Derek also led a parade of members cars around the circuit in his own 924 Carrera GTS and spoke on stage at the Gala Dinner.
The award ceremony for the Motor Sport Hall of Fame will take place on Tuesday, 31st May at the Royal Automobile Club, Woodcote Park, where five awards will be presented representing Formula 1, sports car racing, motorcycling, rallying and US motor sport.
For the first time ever Motor Sport readers can help decide which great figures from the past and present join the 29 current members of the illustrious Hall of Fame. Voting is still open, so please help Derek by following the link below:
