Club and AM Championship
Yet again the Porsche Club Motorsport Club Championship with Pirelli and Porsche Club Motorsport AM Championship with Pirelli series come down to the final races of the year to decide the champions, so which drivers will leave Snetterton with the titles to finish off a successful season? It is the best 12-scoress from a 14-race season that count, and with bonus points for contesting the final meeting everything is still up for grabs and it will be a dramatic day of racing.
In the Porsche Club Motorsport Club Championship with Pirelli, it is Jake McAleer who heads the points table with six wins including race one at Donington Park three weeks ago. He also has the advantage if you factor in dropped scores, but that moves second placed Simon Clark, a double champion and also a race winner at Donington, much closer, though Clark had mechanical issues at Anglesey in May and did not race so needs to score well in both rounds today to keep the pressure on.
In third and still in with a shot at the title is Mark McAleer, another former double champion and father of points leader Jake, although a non-finish in the second race at Donington has dented his hopes. Bating for fourth and each other in recent races are team-mates Chris Dyer and Pete Morris, Dyer leading Cayman in the field, though Ed Hayes was on the podium in his Cayman and Donington and will be one to watch.
It is close at the top for the Porsche Club Motorsport AM Championship with Pirelli title, Andrew Porter and Wayne Gregory just four points apart on total points scored, that gap growing in Porter’s favour once dropped scores are taken into account. The dropped scores rule brings Shiraz Khan into play as was another to miss the Anglesey races with an issue, and he will be keen to add to his three wins to date.
No driver has dominated the class which has made the season exciting, Tom Andrew and Darren Labbett both still in with a shot at a top three championship finish. Oliver Chatham has won three of the previous four races but has not done the full season, so cold be a wild card in both races.
Boxster Cup
Snetterton once more hosts the final rounds of the Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup season, and the title battle is in full swing so the bonus points up for grabs in the final two races could be crucial in deciding the destination of the championship. A number of drivers are in with a shot at the title, and any one of them could be leaving Snetterton as provisional champion which means it will almost certainly go down to the final Boxster Cup race of the day and the season.
Max Watt has been the form driver of late and won six of the previous seven races, and with the best 12 of 14 scores to count for the title is ahead on dropped scores, although that means he has no safety net at Snetterton and needs to score in both 25-minute races. Season long rival Bertie Bream won race two at Donington Park three weeks ago and will undoubtedly be quick, and is just 15 points behind on current dropped scores so well in the title race and their battle will be one to watch, both racers in their debut Boxster Cup season.
The experienced Mike Thompson is well used to close season ending battles having been championship runner-up more than once and is right in the mix this year, he took a win at Anglesey in May and has been a podium regular scoring well. Sitting fourth in the points with two wins is Perry Darling, and he will be another chasing a podium finish and a top three championship position once all the mathematics has been done.
There will be more than the title fight to enjoy with battles down the top ten that have been a highlight of many races featuring drivers such as Ben Grewcock, Brendan Haffner and Stuart Warner to name just a few. Intended as a route into motorsport for newcomers as well as a home for some series regulars who enjoy not only the race action but also the camaraderie and paddock atmosphere the Boxster Cup has become a popular, and action-packed, choice for drivers for of all levels.
Tyres could be key as competitors limited to just two sets of treaded Pirelli tyres for the season to control costs for the field of 3.2 litre Boxsters. If it is a dry race, then the advantage could with whoever has preserved their tyres the best over the long season!
All rounds feature one 20-minute qualifying and two 25-minute races.
