All four of Porsche Club Motorsport’s race series combine to take on the challenge of the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit with cars from the Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli , Autofarm Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge forming one of the best grids of Porsches to be seen in the UK this year.
The biggest group of cars comes from the Porsche Club Championship where the two classes are competing for the prestigious title as their season enters its second half. The quickest class one cars could be challenging for outright race honours with their slick tyres giving them a speed advantage in the corners.
2020 champion Simon Clark has been the pacesetter in recent races in his 996 C2, but he will be pushed hard by experienced racers such as Pete Morris, Chris Dyer and Kevin Harrison. Father and Son duo James and Bill Caley have also been front-runners in what has been a close season to date, Bill impressing having stepped up from class two.
Class two is dominated by Boxsters and has also seen some great racing so far, with a clutch of quick drivers fighting for the podium places. James Coleman and Colin Tester have taken the race wins, while Angus Archer, Paul Simpson and Andrew Porter have all taken podium finishes and they will all be looking to claim a win on the full Silverstone layout.
The Boxster Cup features similar cars but running on treaded tyres to control costs, and has an intriguing mix of relative race newcomers and drivers with a couple of seasons under their belts. Mike Thompson heads the points having only once finished off the podium, while Pete Evans is the form driver having taken the last three wins.
A host of rookies have shown their strength with Darren Labbett and Darren King both winning races with a novice cross on the back of their cars, Stephen Shore also taking his first win. Our two lady racers are also both overdue podium finishes, Sarah Thomson taking both poles at Snetterton while Faye Noble-Evans is always in the thick of the action.
The 911 Challenge is open to any air-cooled Porsche, a series of races that attract a wide variety of rapid 911s. Tim Bates has claimed every race win to date, but Rob Hollyman has won races before and returns having cured the misfire that hampered him at Snetterton.
James Neal and Neil Harvey share a 964 and are frequent podium visitors, while David Burke’s charismatic RSR and the quick 911 SC of Mike Johnson are just a couple of the many returning car and drivers line ups.
