993 Jacking points issue

Hi, I need to have the 2 front wheels refurbished. Once jacked up I can use the space saver tyre for one side. When I have jacked up the other side I can remove the wheel but the user guide says there is only one point for jacking and I need to place an axle stand/support underneath for safety. Any ideas other than getting another space saver tyre?

There is an article on RENlist.com on jacking up the car. though I have never used it.

Under the engine sump for the rear and under the front pan for the front, then both wheels off with no problems.

Many wheel-reburbers will lend you a spare pair of wheels while they do their stuff. A good indy will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Do not Jack under the front pan, it's not strong enough, the obvious answer is to place the axle stand under the brake disc bell of the side without the wheel. Personally I would remove the front underguard and place the axle stand under the alloy side member that mounts the lower wishbone .

Regards,Christian.

Be careful with that method - the suspension goes through a significant camber change between full droop and "normal" compression. It should be fine but is also a function of what the platform of your axle stand looks like.

I've never had an issue jacking up the front of an air-cooled 911 using a nice wide piece of 2x4 or 2x6.
