Upgraded pads for front

Hi Guys
my 987C had new front discs and pads from dealer when I bought it last year but europarts Pagid Type. Getting slight graunching sound and fade pretty quick when braking hard so looking to put set of EBC RED stuff pads in before it’s first track day in June As don’t want brakes to melt on first lap and porsche usually have the best brakes in the business from my previous experience!
Many thoughts on these over OEM textron brand my Indy usuallly fits?
Thanks.

If they are anything like the EBC yellows I wouldn't touch them personally (I tried on mine and they crumbled away after one track day) , people swear buy pagid RS29 yellows but they are expensive and I have not tried them yet, currently running Brembo sport hp 2000 pads and they are good compromise for road and track versus cost imo.

Have you upgraded the brake fluid too ?

Thanks crafty72

yes heard mixed reviews online about crumbling... and noise.

i have just had service and New fluid at good independent and sharpened up pedal but not convinced pads are any good. Lots dust and nit the usual porsche stopping power!

Will look into Brembo pads or stick with textron OEM pads my Indy fits as standard. Cheers

The basic pagid pads you can get from Euro carparts are awful in my experience. They're nothing like the Pagid motorsport range like RS29. Agree with Crafty that HP2000 work really well and the Textar ones are not far behind.

Thanks Steve.

this confirms my thoughts. as I’m spending out to get better pads installed I may pay the little extra to get the brembo sports especially as the cayman is best enjoyed on the limit so that means more track days And brakes!

P.s GT4 in yellow is my favourite spec ;) and a mates collecting his GT4 tomorow! My croc is in good company.

50% of brakes Pads and Discs at Eurocar parts this weekend

This includes Bremo

cost me 210.00 for all four wheels

Good luck

Richard

In case anyone's interested, a few days ago I ordered a set of girodisc rotors for my 987 and Brembo Sport pads. Ideally I wanted the Pagid RS4-2s or 4-4s but they are on a super-long lead-time from Germany and I need this done before the PCGB Silverstone day next month. Current rotors are starting to crack a little so I'm pre-emptively replacing them.

Have decided to go for floating rotors because I'm actually trying to run the brakes hotter and avoid the heat soaking into the hubs and wheels which gets everything else too hot. If the discs run hotter, they should be able to dissipate energy faster which should make the whole process more efficient.

Will probably post a thread with some feedback on these soon.

Yes very interested, close to buying front Girodiscs myself, where are you sourcing yours from please ?

Agree that yellow stuff are awful on a cayman, they were fine on my old MR2 (a much lighter car)

I’ve run stock ona track day and found them fine, just went on a track day with Brembo HP2000 sport. Really good, perfectly ok for the occasional track day and road use. Worth a try for the price.

Thanks Pterri. I have just ordered some Brembo sports and also getting the GT3 brake ducts that fit 987 so should make a big improvement ready in prep for its first track day in June 😉

Hiya

From my personal experience get yourself a set of RS29's with Castrol SRF, decent brake lines and never worry again. Never experienced a single but of fade and work perfectly well on the track or the road. Also something that some people overlook is they wear incredibly well instead of some that last only a few track days

I’m pretty sure RS29’s are not approved for road use. They are not stamped with the required R.

There could be insurance implications if a pedantic insurance investigator noticed.

I went with Brembo sport pads, gt3 cooling ducts, braided lines and a higher temp brake fluid. The best combo yet.

Yellowstuff pads were the best upgrade I had ever done to the car, until I took them on track.. destroyed them within minutes. They were dangerous driving home as they just didn’t stop the car safely.

Thanks contraband. Good advice and good to hear your experience with a 2.7 also. Getting the Brembo sport pads fitted friday And hopefully the ducts too. ;)

what tyres are you running? N rated michies? My conti sports are getting old rubber now as done so few miles when I got it. And not sure if to Get N rated pilot sport 2 or newer mich sports... as way past warrant. Any experience?

I use pilot sports on track and continentals on the road. The pilot sports are just superb when warmed up. They are now down to about 3mm and are still performing very well. I’ll be using them at Knockhill next month. I tried the Contis at Oulton Park and within 2 laps they had overheated.

Interesting. Are they the cayman N3 (I think) Mich Sports 2s or do you use later versions?

i have had conti sports on a Few new Passats for work but never liked them. So will definitely change to pilot Sports Soon.
