718 Boxster rear lights condensation

Has anyone else had problems with rear lights steaming up - noticed today & temperature was over 23 degrees so wouldn’t have thought this should happen.

Do you have LED rear lights on your car? I upgraded my lights last year to OEM LEDs and they too fog from time to time. I did a bit of research and it seems to be a feature of this type of light. I find it clears after a while.

I have the same problem with my 718 Boxster rear lights, another member at the R7 meet this morning also had the same issue.

After the drive to the meet my rear lights were fine and became misted up starting in the corners after the car had been parked for a while.

Yep, both our 981's did the same, just been out to the Motor Show near Kendal today and there was some slight misting up at the corners of both rear lights, it soon disappears.

Thanks guys - yes they’re led lights. To be honest I think the headlights also steam up from time to time. Probably give the dealer a ring & see what they say.

It recently started happening to mine too. I've had the car a year now and had no problems with it last year but then I went to Donington Historic and it started there. Took it out this weekend too and had the same problem but it cleared up within 30 mins of getting home.

Let me know what the centre says to you, if they replace yours I'll speak to mine too.

Well called into Centre - receptionist went searching for someone to answer my query as they were short staffed. Apparently it is normal - she said “it is mentioned in the drivers manual - you do have one don’t you” which I thought was very condescending.

Anyway, I’ve searched the manual & can find no reference to it at all - anyone point me to where it is or were they just trying to fob me off?

I have the car booked in for some work in a couple of weeks time and mentioned it to the service advisor who told me to to discuss it with the technician at the time.

I will advise what they have to say.

I have had absolutely no problems at all with condensation on the lights on my 718 CS. That's now 19 months ownership from new and 12400 miles up. My car is garaged at home, but when touring the UK it sits outside in the open day and night, rain and shine. Never experienced any signs of condensation.

Must be a car specific thing I would say.

Took car into PC today and discussed this with service advisor. I got the ‘ they all do that sir‘ reply . Apparently Porsche do not regard this as a problem unless the lenses do not clear. So they are aware of the issue, possibly a design fault?

I will monitor it and in case this proves to be a problem in the future I have photos and have logged this as a potential warranty matter.

I have the same issue on my 718 Boxster S. I’d not noticed this before but after a jet wash and a good drive, the next morning I spotted that the lights at the rear were severely condensated. Could this be to do with the jet wash…? LED lighting on my car.

It’s perfectly normal. The lights are vented so they will mist up.

If they don’t or water starts to pool in the lens then you need to speak to your OPC

Dan.
