981 3.4 without PSE

Hi Toby,

Sorry, I don't have PSE on my Cayman but it can be retrofitted - price between £450 and £500. You should get a 10% discount on parts from a Porsche Centre.

Oops! Misread your post. As others have said I would expect something around £2k, dependent upon who supplies and fits it. As an alternative you could consider having the existing exhaust modified by Carnewal for a very reasonable 450 Euros http://www.carnewal.com/products/981/p81001/981-Carnewal-GT-Exhaust

 
Hi - I'm very close to buying a 2015 manual 981 3.4 from my local PC. I notice it doesn't have the factory option sports exhaust. While I'm buying this ultimately for the drive, any thoughts on how much a difference the PSE makes? Also does anyone know whether PSE is an aftermarket option? Thanks Toby.
 
I bought new a 981 2.7 without PSE. I then decided to fit the twin exhaust pipes which cost £400 and months later decided to add the full PSE system which cost another £1800. All the work was done at my OPC and was discounted.

The PSE adds lots of popping and crackles on the overrun and is great for sporty driving, however at motorway speeds there is a 'drone' at 2000rpm which is extremely annoying. I would try to drive a car with one fitted if you do motorway driving as you may find the noise annoying rather than pleasant.

 
I wish it could be done for £450-500! Still haven't had one fitted as never had a quote below £2k.

 
The £1800 sounds about right to me. I've got a PSE on my 981 GTS and love the crackles and pops. I do 7 - 8000 miles a year in varied driving and never have it switched off. I'm 64 but slightly immature, if that helps [;)].

Thanks all for the comments and good to know PSE is a retrofit option. Gone ahead with the purchase of the 981, hopefully picking it up at the weekend. So pics to follow.... cheers Toby

 
Congrats on the purchase. I would live with it for a while .

Had my 981 S for a year now and am happy with the standard exhaust .

 
I bought my 981 S secondhand and it came with PSE. Personally I would not pay to have PSE as an option on a new car. The pops and bangs just sound a bit juvenile to me, so I always have it switched off.

I guess PSE is one of those 'Marmite' options - you love it or hate it.

 
I'll vouch for Paul's statement above, I also have PSE on my 987.2S and while I drive mostly with it off it get's flicked on occasionally and when climbing over the torque curve at around 4,000 rpm or so it has a great sound. £2000 sounds about right as a retro fit but if you have a warranty then best stay clear of the carnewal modification to a standard exhaust although a friend has it on his 987.1 and it does sound good. Personally, mine had it but I wouldn't order it and the original owner I think rarely used it since when I got the car three years ago it sounded tinny when switched on but after some use and a bit of carbon build up it sounds better.

 
So quick update - picked up my Cayman S this afternoon and even without PSE, oh my word..... what a soundtrack. What a car. For now (at least) I'm just going to enjoy it as it is. Happy days....

Wise move

I love the fun of an occasional blast with PSE (already fitted on my car) but I personally wouldn’t have paid £2k for it

sport chrono is different though- well worth having

I went the Carnewal route on my 987.1

Pops bangs crackles on demand, but mine doesn't have the valved system, so its 'on' all the time.

You sometimes feel like there are too many crackles, even pootling around town at low revs, the exhaust coughs at unsuspecting bystanders.

Phenomenal when you want it, and when pushing on through the revs, howling right up to the naughty revs.

My manual 2.7 sits quite nicely on the motorway in all fairness. 75mph is about 3k rpm and it has a nice sporty, but not drony note to it.

2000-2500rpm is a bit noisier than you may probably want, and the exhaust note is deeper.

Not overly intrusive, but a lot louder than stock.

I got bored of my stock exhaust after 3 months, but sometimes wish I could quieten this one down when I'm not in the mood.

But then I think why I bought it - and its a great modification. (and looks standard)

BTW, emissions test during this years MOT with the Carnewal gave a better (cleaner) result than last years with the stock exhaust on !!!
