LY3E is Crimson Red and is indeed a 1987MY colour. Check your VIn, it will include the numbers ZZZ92ZGN for 1986 or ZZZ92ZHN for 1987. Remember, Porsche model years start from end of August preceding year, so although registered in 1986, your car could be 1987 model.

Hello all, I've just made the move into Porsche ownership for the 1st time with a 1986 924S! Its in remarkably sound condition for the age, so i'm hoping for some trouble free motoring & a lot of enjoyment out of it! One thing that I've been puzzled by though is that, my car has a LY3E paint code but i cant see that in the FAQ post, Google tells me its called Malvenrot & only available in 87, so would that have been a special order colour?
I'm sure there will be many more queries to come from me!!

Thanks
Andrew

Good choice ,Andrew-you will see that we run 2 924S's-similar years to your new purchase .Our oldest has been with us since 1991 with 108K on the clock. Still goes smoothly, the other red one is my track day car although used whenever on the road.

I frequent the 944 Forum more than the 924 one as the former has most in common from a user point of view.Lots of help available on here.

Enjoy!

Hi Andrew

Welcome to Porsche ownership. I also have a 924S, a 1985 MY1986, purchased a year ago. Much prefer it to the Turbo which I'd previously had for 15 years. They are quite easy to do basic servicing on and as 'Vitesse' says it is worth looking at the 944 Forum with regard to mechanical advice. Crucial thing you need to check is when the cambelt and balance belts were last changed (You'll find advice on 944 Forum )

Would be great if you could post some photos in due course.

Cheers

Robert
