Off to PEC tomorrow

Hi All,

Off for my day at the PEC tomorrow and just had a thought. I don't have a GoPro or anything (just a "proper" DSLR). Is it worth me popping out and buying a stick up dashcam or anything? Is that allowed?

Cheers

Jim

Thanks Ralph.
The reason why I asked is for practical experience. Many many PCGB members have been to the PEC and they will know whether it is "worth recording". I'm not so sure that the PEC would be able to give me this impartial information, hence why I am asking my friends on the PCGB 991 forum.

Jim

I was there in March & they wouldn't let me use my Go Pro so unless they've changed there policy I wouldn't bother. You can video in & around the PEC but just not on track, so your DSLR would be fine for that. Not sure why they don't allow it?

Had an email from PEC today to say that they now have a Carrera T on their fleet, so I am looking forward to heading to Silverstone for my third visit soon... [:)]

Simon you know it won't be the same if it's not Racing Yellow!

I live in hope!! [:)] The email did have a picture of a yellow T on it! And I certainly hope and assume that it'll have manual transmission. [8|]

How did you get on Jim?
Great. My Driving Consultant was Dicky Atwood so I was somewhat in awe of driving and learning from a Le Mans winner! (And 60's F1 hero no less). I think the best summary of how I felt about the whole thing was "Useful".

I've done a bit of track driving before so this was more about learning the 991 on track with a guiding hand. Given me more confidence in the car definitely. Love that triple right hander with the transition into the left hander and having Yoda there to correct me was awesome. I loved the fact that he said that with modern 911s "slow in fast out" is obsolete, its now "Fast in, Fast through, Fast Out" :)

We didn't give the ice hill or kick plate much time. Did it, worked out the speed and amount of lock required, done. 90% of my time was "lines and method" which was just what I wanted.

A good day.

Oh, and Mark Webber was there with his GT2RS doing some filming. Nice guy doing autographs and selfies for people and a bit of a "ledge" (I didn't bother him.. too shy and retiring me).

There were two in the attendees car park. Really common these T's ;)

That's interesting, Jimmy. Racing Yellow? [:)]

Sounds great Jim and to have Richard Attwood as your instructor was a special bonus. Did you use your own car? If so what did you do about insuring it? I would love to go but I would want to use my car but not sure I want the risk.

Used one of the PEC's C2S's so I was in a 991.2. You sign a disclaimer and commit to a £500 excess if you bend it.

Re 991.2; Chassis feels just the same as ours but the power delivery and noise is very different.

I hope you didn’t call him Dicky !!
he definately prefers being called Richard!
I was lucky enough to have him in my cayman s a few years ago - nice bloke and bloody quick!??

No, I didn't, just my Mum and her peers know him as Dicky so I assumed it may well have been common. My bad!

He's quick and an exceptionally calm teacher. Also, an exceptionally modest chap.

I wouldn't worry about it TBH – the car's capabilities are waaaaaay above most average people's skills these days. If you leave PSM on I seriously doubt you'll ever get close to an insurance incident at the PEC (the instructors aren't going to get you vaguely close to it either). I did a two day course there, and on to Silverstone itself, last year in my then five month old C2S. Instruction was first rate.
