Can I ask has anyone experience of removing / replacing a NS door. Do you need to remove the glass first or can you do it all on the bench after the loom connector, door tie and hinges are removed?

How difficult was re fitting and alignment?

Any areas of concern to watch out for?

Thanks

Ian

Thanks Richard kind offer

I Have the manual I just cannot work out the order of attack at the moment. Space in the garage is tight and I would like to take the door off and work on it at bench height. That seems easy enough and I would start with the window up as it needs to be to get the holding screws out I believe, but I am not sure if the regulator and other bits need power to enable removal. The setting up afterwards getting the gaps right and having it work correctly also sounds 'simple' but are there any areas to trap the first time door remover.

I was hoping we my have had a member with experience on this job (but maybe not and I will need to write it up!)

If you need to completely dismantle the door, i.e. glass out, locks out etc it will be easier to do with the electrics still connected. You may have to get the window in a certain position to access the fixings holding the glass to the mech. I you are fitting a new mech when the door goes back on it would benefit you to connect the wiring to again align the fixings where necessary.

Hi Ian
Just my thoughts, but unless you are actually replacing the door it’s got to be far easier changing components with the door fitted to the car, less likely to cause any damage to the door skin and any adjustments will have to be carried out with the door in place and electrics connected.
Best of luck whichever route you choose.

Don't know if you tackled this yet, but as far as removing doors on modern cars it's a walk on the park.
No alignment issue to worry about.
I always place a soft mechanics stool under the door before lifting it off.
Not sure it would make any repair tasks easier though?
And it's easy to damage a door once removed.
