Washer water leak from passenger side PU

Hi

Filled the washer bottle this morning and then lost all of the water after starting the car 10 minutes later.
the washer water gushed out from under the passengers side PU so obviously not the main tank/bottle that’s the other side of the wheel, i’m assuming its the pop up headlight washer or pipe.
Im away until Sunday night but planning a trip abroad next weekend So need to sort it during the week.

Any thoughts as to if this is likely to be repairable other than clamping the pipe short term before the leak? I’m assuming whatever it is ill need to remove the PU or inner wheel arch to get in an investigate.

regards
Karl

Karl,

I'd start with removing the front section of the n/s wheel arch liner and have a poke around. If the headlamp washer pipe has broken loose from the nozzle you may be able to re-attach it, or perhaps block it off temporarily - otherwise it's probably a front PU-off job.

I had a similar issue with my 997.2.

If you remove the passenger side headlight unit you can see behind where there is a join that is held in place by a blue plastic clip. This loses its spring and fails to hold the joint in place, causing the joint to pop open under pressure. I had to replace mine with a clip that I fashioned out of a stainless steel brick tie! All will become clear when you look in there.

Now the other posts about removing the NS arch liner aren't wrong, but here's a fix you can try from the drivers seat.
With the lights and ignition on, press the headlight washer button to activate both washers. Sometimes the nozzles and the feed connectors fur up if the washer bottle is filled using tap water and hardly, if ever, used.

You are losing the fluid quite quickly so it may be the main connector after all, but, never knows.

Thanks for your replies, will try headlight removal when i get home later as a starter, anyone know the skt size?

thanks

Karl

Karl,

There should be a headlamp removal tool in your car's toolkit. It's a box spanner - 8mm hex I think.

Hi

Thanks for the info

Took the inner arch off and got the headlight out with the tool from the kit when i got back earlier, managed to seal off the pipe that goes over the top of the wheel arch down to the joint to the PU, still need to remove the PU as neither headlamp jets are working to see what the actual problem is.

Started taking all of the PU fixings out to see how easy that would be as the lights wouldn't come out to start with and then got the light out so put them back in, only issue is i dropped one of the 3 trunk screws down on top of the centre Rad and couldn't find it, I'm now worried if it drops out under the wheel so I really need to remove the PU anyway now this week before going abroad this Sunday!!

Grrrrrrrr.... will have a look for PU removal info & start a new post for some advice if i cant find anything......

Karl

Thanks for all of the replies, photos showing the location of the clips has explained everythin.
Wheels off, tools back out again tonight

thanks

Karl

Had the same problem with my GT2 - Turned out that the pump had failed, having a new one fitted next week.
Bizarrely had a similar problem same week with my wifes Macan- that was just a loose pipe.

Thanks to Clive for the photos showing how to remove the clips that hold the PU to the Inner wings, once that was sorted the PU was really easy to remove.

So without telling you i recently had the front PU painted, on removal i found the following.
1) hose on rear T piece next to N/S headlight washer removed and unclipped. clip not broken
2) both spotlight connectors not relocated into brackets and just swinging in the wind.
3) 2 loose fixings under the car
4) O/S indicator wiring loom trapped and squashed under right angled bracket that locates the PU behind the indicator.
5) connector locking tab broken off on O/S wiring loom, connector also not relocated on bracket.

Plugged everything back in and re-installed PU & surprise surprise everything works including headlight washers, i even found my missing screw lodged on top of the front Rad.

All good, off to the ring on Sunday [:)]

Thanks for all of your advise, time to email some pictures to the paint repair centre pointing out the quality work they carried out........NOT!!!!!!

Karl

Wow - those idiots didn't follow 'reassembly is the reverse of removal', did they?
Glad you got it sorted OK, though.

Result..! Well done Karl.

Have a good trip, hopefully without rain; but if it does then you're all set up.

Jeff

Great result!

I do keep meaning to follow Clive's post to take off the PU to get to clean the rads but just haven't got round to it.

All the best!

Once you work out the best tool for removing the inner wing clips that i couldnt find until Clive sent me 2 great pictures the rest is easy.

the only thing you need to be aware of lifting it back on is aligning the centre rad cowling and not trapping the indicator loom unlike my paint shop!!!!
