Is this Expensive? Porsche Boxster 1998

I'm note sure about the price, I'll leave that to others, but easy to google other cars at same age/condition/mileage for a comparison.

But if £4.5k worries you as a purchase price, don't buy it before you check out the running costs. These cars need to be cared for to get the most fun out of them and a twenty year old car will need new parts from time to time and, as all do, regular servicing.

Ideally you want someone running one of a similar age to comment on overall costs as much as purchase price or perhaps a Porsche specialist.

As been said above plus get it checked out by a Porsche Specialist it's worth it would be my advice to save a lot of heartache any expenses in the near future . It's rather high mileage but that said it all depends how much it has been loved and maintained .
Look for regular on time services by a reputable Porsche specialist and invoices for any work carried out over the years.
As said with a car of that age you need to factor in repair costs.

Hiya,

It only has two previous owners and from looking at the service book been serviced at regular intervals including the last one at 102k
I do appreciate it's a 20yr car and there will be things that can go wrong. It comes with a car cover which has been used on the car
I've looked at the MOT history and nothing seriously bad with the last few MOT's

Sound as if you like it and done a bit of homework.
If serious about purchasing this one take it and get the car checked over by a reputable Porsche specialist before committing best advice I could give anyone.
Good luck.

Just looked at the advert main heading says it's a 2.7 but in fact it's a 2.5 which for that year is correct.
No biggy just pointing it out.

I did realise it was a 2.5 when I drove it as it was a lot quieter than I thought and did mention the ad to the salesman saying it was a 2.7 but on the full ad it does say 2.5
I'll see if I can get them to knock some more off the price and then think about it some more...

It was sold a couple of years back by a well known Porsche specialist, Strasse. Car has only covered 7k miles since then

I think this is a good sign. As you say it has only had minor issues at MOT time

Values won't go much lower. Comments about running costs are correct but they are such great cars

You can get an idea of what it is worth as a trade-in by using webuyanycar for the worst case what-is-it-worth cost

Good luck!

My first Porsche was a 1998 Boxster 2.5 manual. Great car, great introduction to the marque.

Enjoy!

Hiya,

What about this one. I realise the mileage is high but clutch has been done, comes with hard top, passed MOT with no advisories
They are willing to maybe accept 4k for the car. Spoke to them on the phone
I know it's a 3.2 and some people are vary of the 3.2....

It's so difficult to pick....It's a minefield...So many options, so many variations to consider...

If the car came from Strasse and only covered 7 k since as said above it should be decent enough, it looks to be unmolested and pretty original with no go faster bits fitted and if it's only 4k now seems reasonable enough .But as advised get a Porsche Specialist to give it a check.

Seriously do not worry too much about running costs
Parts are either Silly cheap or Silly expensive
ALWAYS speak to your local Porsche Centre about prices first. POrsche take pride in keeping their prices sencible. I fell into the trap of having an oil Cooler fitted to my 996 by a so called Porsche Specialist Not only did they rip me off on price and time (1300 4 days!!) They bodged the fit and twisted the piped going into the cooler. Gad to hire a car and spend two more days in Woodhall Spa
Porsche Wolverhampton said they had fixed price of 450.00 FITTED!! and would have done it in under a day and lent me a car!!
THey fitted 2 new pipes did the full Coolant for I think around 200.00
After I bought a Boxster they did a full check on my car for 75.00 and gave me neatly 90 mins checking the car AND spent about 20 mins showing me the problems
CANT GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS
Regular oil changes will help with the IMS bearing

I would definitely get it checked over by a Porsche specialist before buying. You could end up spending the same price you've spent on the car getting it up to scratch. For a few hundred quid you'll know exactly what needs doing. You also then have some leverage when it comes to negotiation. If the vendor isn't keen on you getting an inspection then I'd walk away and start looking elsewhere.

Great advice from the above quotes, lovely classic Boxster that is, love them in red too. If you have a good mechanic friend that you can take along and the dealer has a ramp you could always give it a once over in situ. At the end of the day the same criteria for buying any used car applies to the Boxster, ramp up inspection of suspension, bushes, corrosion, exshaust, rads, disks and pads, tyres. Test drive, does it stop in a straight line, are there any clunks or strange engine noises. If the have a ramp and nothing to hide then why not.

Hi.
Any news on the purchase of the Red Boxster or still searching. ?
If you have purchased you might want to consider joining PCGB it has lots of benifits that can help you out with your Porsche ownership.
