Hmmmm - Chipex kit ordered

No idea when/how this happened. No dent/ding, just paint missing!

Will update thread with Chipex results - Remember I'm really fussy so I'm hoping it'll be good. Was recommended to me by Clark Aitken (he of Polished Bliss fame).

James,

If the surface has actually been penetrated I think that it's going to be hard task for any touch-in repair to be fully effective. I've used Chipex with mixed success - it's worked really well on stone chips on my Tornado Red Golf GTi but not so effectively on my Arctic Silver (metallic) Cayman S. I think that it should work reasonably well on your (flat white?) panel, but it's never going to be good as a full respray.

Take your time, let the paint dry thoroughly before blending in and use multiple coats, as necessary. The great thing about the Chipex kit is that the repair's reversible - just wipe it over with the blending solution.

Good luck..!

Jeff

I've had good results on some stone chips to my Aqua blue metallic. On gloss black a lot of patience required. The white should be fine.

It's the "removable" part I'm interested to see. I have stopper, paint, and wet and dry and a DA at my disposal to do it "properly" if needs be, so we'll see. Re-spray and wet-sand will come one day, but we're a way away from that yet. Besides, I'll need a spare "workhorse" 911 to schlep about in while that's being done :)

Quick snap of the result. Pretty good for a stone chip repair and I'm sure I can get it a little better with a second "go"

Great result Jimmy. I wonder whether it is as effective on metallic paint such as my Agate Grey.....

Excellent result there Jimmy - looks as though Chipex has worked very well for you.

Quite a few discount offers from Chipex recently too.

Jeff

I'm a bit surprised John. Have you checked using the correct Porsche paint code - MS7/N0??

It should be on one of the plates on the car or in your driver's manual.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. The paint code for Agate Grey is LM7S and their search engine says not found but I have emailed Chipex just in case.

Aha! It looks as though it is ACHATGRAU M7S in their list having Googled LM7S and found it is called 'Achatgrau' in German. I will check with them tomorrow but looks very promising [:)]

The stone chips on the car are fairly small in the usual places. My concern is the rear wheel arch road rash on both arches. Does everyone have this? Will Chipex sort this with patience and repeated applications?

Chipex will not be any good for such large area I'm afraid. You will need to get that professionally sprayed.

I have had reasonable success on my Racing Yellow 981 but pretty poor result on my wife's ex metallic grey BMW 320

John,
As this area gets a pretty serious kicking I'd get it wrapped neatly with some pretty heavy duty vinyl in a neat strip. If you've not done any yourself before, get a pro to do it, mainly for the neat shaping they can do. It will last a couple of years and because of the substrate material there's no real need to worry about corrosion. I'd not waste money on respraying (or heaven forbid "SMART" repair with a one-pack paint!!).
Cheers
Jim

Thanks Jim. Do you have the same issue? Sounds an idea solution - any ideas who could do it for me? Presumably a decent detailer. I am in Bristol.
