Brake Pads Catching?

I've just been taking out the arch liners to clear the huge amounts of dirt that seems to collect under there.

It may be nothing and normal, but when I tried moving the wheel round it seems like the pad is slightly rubbing the disc. Tried all the wheels and they're the same.

I have ceramic brakes which adds to my paranoia and want to make sure they are not prematurely wearing, if they are in contact all the time.

When I first bought the car I had a 4 hour drive home and I did get the sticking brake pedal and the management light came on. I put this down to it being a very cold day and i'd had the heating on all the way home. Since then though I've not had a problem.

I will probably look to get it booked in somewhere, but thought i'd see if anyone can put my mind at ease for the time being.

The sticking brake pedal problem is common on the 981, and there was a workshop campaign issued about it. The bushes in the brake pedal are oversize, and the pedal sticks under the condition you describe. It should be an FoC repair, so I would contact your local Porsche Centre and see what they say.

Ok thanks. I didn't know that it had been acknowledged as a fault. I don't suppose you would know if there is a workshop number of anything I could to argue my case?

I don't know the number, but several chaps on boxa.net have had the problem, all rectified by Porsche. If you Google it, you'll find loads of hits. A revised bush was issued 05/11/2013 so it is 2012, 2013, and early 2014 cars that are affected.

Edit: Looking back at the boxa.net threads (and one on Pistonheads) it seems that it may not have been a workshop campaign, as most people had them fixed under warranty. Porsche must be well aware of the issue, so I would give them a call and see what they say.

Marc,

As Richard points out, there have been a number of complaints about this problem - including a number of posts on this and the Cayman forum.

Although Porsche are aware of the problem, for some inexplicable reason there hasn't been a recall (one would have thought on safety grounds alone) and you have to raise the issue with them. Note that if you're out of warranty the rectification may not be FOC.
