General purpose garage or specialist for servicing?

Hi there,
I'm new to 911 ownership and have just bought an '88 3.2. Love the car, and since buying it last summer it has been perfectly reliable. Obviously I want to keep it that way and also maintain its value, as it has a FSH and in very good condition throughout. The question I have is I have a good relationship with a local independent garage who have done work on my other classic, a Ford Capri, and wonder if there are any drawbacks to using a non-specialist for servicing a 911? They are 'old school' in as much as they are happy to work on older pre-computer cars but not a classic specialist. Or is it significantly better to use a garage who are 911 experts? Would a folder with (recent) servicing stamps from specialists be that much more appealing to buyers? Any pitfalls or difficulties when servicing the aircooled 911s?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Carrera 3.2 ownership, and pleased you are enjoying the car.
If you can let us know the area you are based in there will be a few owners on here that can offer you independent Porsche garage options. I would think if you have a full service history from Porsche related garages it will be best to keep this going. I guess an independant specialist without experience could do some research and carry out a service but there would be a few nuances that may need to be covered.

Thanks for the reply. I'm based in Sutton, South London/Surrey. Happy to travel a reasonable distance, especially south away from the congestion. I've been told Parr @ Crawley have a good reputation?

Prior to relocating North, I used La Rose in Sevenoaks area.
They have loads of experience with air-cooled classic models and I highly recommend them
