987.1 Manual Gearbox Oil change - fluid choice

Hi All,

I face a gearbox oil change next month, due every 5 years, and there is a choice of lubricant.

Porsche recommend 'Mobil' 75w90 oil and 4 litres - I would get this from either my local Porsche Centre or Independent garage.

'Gulf' also offer a 75w90 oil, Syngear, I would get 4 litres of this through Euro Car Parts.

Is there any experience of either product being used that could be offered to help with lubricant choice please?

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Hi Peter.
Sorry can't help with your question but if Porsche recommend Mobil 75w90 oil that would be good enough for me.

Hi all,

Thanks to both the answers above. After checking my service schedule, the gearbox oil change is every 12 years, hence why it's due this year as my car is now 12 years old!

I decided to use the Mobile oil option - as it's going to be in there a long time and Mobil oil is what Porsche filled the gearbox with in the factory in the first place.

Perhaps the Gulf oil option is just as good, same specification etc, but I just went with Mobil as that's what Porsche used.

An independent garage I choose to use, Dove House in Northampton, supplied and filled for a good price too.

Peter
