rowtietowersFANTASTIC ROUTE - COMES HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDTried Mark’s route yesterday as we are travelling back from Corfu so unable to make it. Travelled solo as Rita was out with her sister, aunts & nieces. What a brilliant route - right from the start from Lanchester Garden Centre you are on a fast fell road heading towards Tow Law. A brief spell on the A68 then onto Waskerley Fell then the B6278 dropping over Crawleyside into Stanhope - yet another brilliant fell road with great sight lines for overtaking (just watch out for suicidal sheep!). Cross over the A689 avoiding the ford and back onto the B6278 over Bollihope Common to Eggleston (another fast fell road with superb sight lines for safe overtaking) then B6279 towards Staindrop which is a seriously fast road for a real good blat!! Through Staindrop on the A688 then continue on the B6279 to Headlam Hall.Surprisingly all the roads are in great condition with very few potholes in spite of the horrendous winter we’ve had - the main problem I encountered was water run off with gravel washed out onto the road normally in the middle of bends but hopefully the weather will have improved by then & will not be a problem. I recorded it on my dash cam but forgot I’d turned the sound off - looks like I’ll have to do it all over again! If you can make it, you will not be disappointed - I know these roads from my road rallying days in the mid 80’s and have always loved them.
