Excellent stripe / decal supplier- Designstuffonline

When I purchased my 987.2 S nearly two years ago it needed a little something to make it stand out so I had the mirrors and side vents painted and added some R style side stripes found on eBay for £60. I expected then to last a few weeks but they are still going strong, until an over zealous hand car wash managed to blast a small section off, so I contacted Designstuffonline to see if I could buy a replacement for the damaged section or worst case buy a new set. The next day I had a reply, sure no problem let us have your address and we will send out a replacement section free of charge ! Just goes to show that there are companies out there prepared to go the extra mile.
They have a huge range of decal sets for most Porsches in a variety of colours at a much more realistic price than OEM.

Hi Mike,

Interested in your comments on decals. I've also been looking at Designstuffonline and was thinking of buying some. Can I ask a few questions?

1. Did they come with any application instructions? ie: does the surface need special preparation?

2. Yours came off accidentally, but do they remove easily enough if you want to take them off, without any damage?

3. Did you put any protection/sealant over them once fitted?

Glad of any advice.

Cheers,

Rob

I've been looking to get the Boxster S decal for mine. Do these appear as good as the ones offered from Porsche?

Hi Rob

There are no instructions supplied but there is a video on their site, plus others for viynl decals on YouTube, fitting was simple if rather time consuming to ensure they went on just right. I prepared the panels with a clay bar and tar spot remover so the surface was perfectly clean then it's just masking tape to position the decal, a water sprayer for misting to help with application and a rubber squeegee to smooth thing out and push out the water.

Initially I had a lot of water bubbles but these disappeared after a couple of weeks, larger ones were pricked with a pin and then using the squeegee the water can be pushed out. Get hold of some good Cayman R images so you can trim the ends as per the factory stripes, there are specific gaps and angles, make sure you put the front sections on the correct way up, I didn't and have only just found out when I sent in a photo to order a replacement!

As for removing I can't comment but normal practice is to warm them up and peel off then clean with an adhesive cleaner. I'm cautious not to use the pressure washer directly just washing gently with a mitt as there are lots of corners that could potentially lift, from there on its just been a regular waxing.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Mike.

I had already found the video but thanks for the tips. About to order them tomorrow and give it a go.

Will report back later.

Cheers,

Rob

I got some of these a chap called Grafshed on eBay, colours completely customisable and as above sent out some free replacement front bumper decals after I made a mess of the first set... and they were only £30!

Very happy with the result, they seem to be holding up well.

Designstuffonline are great! Ive used them on mine, John has always been very helpful, very reasonable too!

@Paul284pt The image you uploaded here looks great. Can you confirm:

What colours did you go for on your two colour side stripe?

Thanks in advance

I got some Cayman S door stickers for my Cayman off Ebay about 18 months ago and they have done well, there was a choice of two sizes and the company suggested one size for the door and another for the flat area behind the door, the latter was the size I used on the door it's virtually the same as the later 981 door sticker, I removed the wax from the lower door area and cleaned it with a fine cutting paste positioned the decals and made sure they were firmly in place, allowed them time to be sure they were ok then waxed over them a few days later
