Heater Fan not working

My car is now over four years old and has had a number of electrical gremlins, as had the previous one. However, this latest issue takes the biscuit!! I got in the car on a freezing morning and the heater fan would not work, the only way I could get any heat into the cabin was by having the sunroof cracked open and the screen demist on. Took it to an OPC who identified the problem as the fan being jammed by light debris build up and the fact that the car had been left outside for an extended period (7days!!). Not to worry, it was easily fixed by freeing the fan, by hand, from the bonnet compartment. I was so flabbergasted that I failed to ask how enough debris gets in there, why Porsche had not identified the issue in testing, why they had not designed a better intake system and why it was not on the service schedule as a known issue. So............ you now know what the issue is, how to fix it and why no-one will persuade me that Porsche engineering is fantastic [&o][&o] Caveat emptor

Curious. Had something similar with my 991.1 lately - heater not functioning - blowing cold air only - but fan worked. heater changeover valve was stuck (known problem apparently) swapped under warranty and all good again. Not had a sticking fan though - and mine is parked outside all the time (though under a cover in bad weather).

I had exactly the same problem on a day that I really needed the demister, fan nicely blowing cold air everywhere.

Went to OPC described problem. Collected car later in the day and drove off, problem not solved, just plenty of cold air blown in. Returned and complained fault not fixed and told that "diagnostics" indicated fan faulty and new fan installed. I pointed out that the fan was working fine when car went in and was informed that there were two heater fans. I asked why the heater was still not working and why wasn't it checked before I collected car. Given more mumbo jumbo about "diagnostics" not seeing any other faults and I pointed out that a good old fashioned hand over the demister or any vent would have confirmed if heat was coming through!

Collected the car next day with heater working but no info on fault. Interested to hear that this is a known fault but obviously not by my OPC who seem to believe that "diagnostics" is the only way to find and correct faults. Fortunately car under warranty so no charge, just inconvenience,

heater changeover valve's had two of these changed now ..... two to go.

"known fault but obviously not by my OPC who seem to believe that "diagnostics" is the only way to find and correct faults" At the end of the day a opc is a dealership who does service cars as well .....maybe time for a good indie who just does service .....

I had exactly the same valve issue with my 4 year old 991 in the December freeze. Changed without fuss by my OPC under warranty. Now enjoying the remote pre-heating facility of my new e-hybrid Panamera ST - worth it for that alone in the February freeze! [:)]

2019 911 Targa GTS. Christmas Eve left home and heading to family for Xmas and the car heater and demister have decided not to work. So not only is it a cold journey but potentially dangerous. For something which is so well known by Porsche you would think they would let owners know and suggest owners get the fan inspected BEFORE each winter. Have had many cars over the years (not half as expensive) and it seems only Porsche suffer from this problem.

I had exactly this issue, of aircon/heater fan/s not working after car was parked up for 9 days over Christmas/New Year. It is my daily driver and will be 5 years old in April. Have never had this issue before. Luckily Swindon Porsche Centre squeezed me in and fixed it in a jiffy!

The heater/air-con fan in my 991.1 C4S also stopped working last November and when I called in to Porsche Portsmouth I was told it was a known issue. I was shown how to access the fan by removing 2x covers, then reaching in until I could free the fan blades with my fingers. I only use the car a couple of times a week (when the weather is dry), so each time I start the car this same fault occurs. Then in January the fan stopped working altogether, so Porsche Portsmouth booked it in for investigation. This time they found a resistor in the fan power supply had blown, (which I believe is caused by the high current drawn when the fan blades stick) but alas they would not replace the fan under my extended warranty. The fan blades continue to stick, so I returned to Porsche Portsmouth yesterday, to plead with them to replace the fan under warranty but they flatly refused, stating it was a 'design fault' and that replacing the fan would make no difference. Any advice regarding this issue would be much appreciated.
