Whats the perfect service history look like - help please!

I'm thinking about a 997 Targa 4S, 2008, 50k miles that a dealer has for sale in Kent. Looks a lovely car, new clutch, rear gearbox seal. They have kindly emailed pics of the service history but I'm not sure if everything is 100%, some of the boxes have not been ticked but that may be just my lack of knowledge. For example it doesn't look as if the drive belt was checked until year 6 and then it was replaced. If anyone with a similar car could PM their email address I could email a copy through for them to have a look, I'd also be very interested if anyone could email me their service history pages if it's known to be 100% correct so I have something to reference against.

The drive belt is a misnomer. Don't attach to much importance to it. It's used to drive the ancillaries like water pump, power steering, alternator etc not the engine
 
Hi! A Service Book full of stamps never tells the full story of a car. Even a Porsche main dealers mechanics don't always tick the right boxes to reflect what they've done (an OPC even entered the 4th year service on my car in the 6th Year section) but a car should come with the matching invoices to show exactly what was done, as this can also include replacement of 'non-service' items.
If you've got the reg number, check the MOT History on the web. It's a good way of making sure that if a car failed or had advisories noted, that they were taken care of. The sign of a caring owner. Just search 'MOT History check'

Thanks for all advice, very much appreciated, I'll ask for some additional info from the seller. Sounds like the history stamped up is about right then. It was my intention to pay for a specialist inspection to be undertaken too if we like the car at the weekend.

If the services were OPC, it's possible that Porsche will give you copies of the service invoices once you've bought the car (I got quite a few for my 968 cab) and may even let you view them before you buy - worth an ask!

Some of the services on my cab were not OPC, but I contacted the garages involved (once I'd bought the car) and was able to get copies of the service invoices, in one case with the agreement of the previous owner who I'd bought the car from, but earlier invoices under previous owners the garages involved were helpful when I explained what I was trying to achieve - i.e. to fully document the service history of my car.
 
Service book should be stamped with minor service 2010 and 2014 major service in 2012 and 2016 plus plugs you should be able to confirm the service history by ringing the relavent service agents. The inspection is what you need including bore scoping, you can tell a lot from the seller's reaction to wanting an inspection so save it for later in the discussion.
 
Once again, many thanks for all suggestions and information. I've emailed the dealer asking about available documentation etc and will take a look at the MOT history prior to viewing. In the advert, it did state that he had bore-scoping carried out 'for peace of mind' and that all was ok. Providing he's happy for me to look at the invoice for this, which I'm sure he will be, I'll be happy. The reviews for this dealer in Kent are very positive so maybe this will be the car. All help as always is much appreciated.

Hmm - if this is the one at MR911, I'd ask them to confirm the exact spec. From the pictures it's possible to see that this car has neither the Sunroof nor Coloured Wheel Centres the ad claims it does. It's all about the details with cars like these...
 
Hi, no, it's not at MR911, it's the Seal Grey Targa 997 at Cloud 9 Classics. Maybe someone knows this car on here? It's lunchtime now and as I have the registration number, time to look at MOT history on-line.

You've raised a very good point there, I hadn't noticed the non-std splitter and wonder if it will cause grounding problems getting the car onto my drive from the road as our Boxster only just makes it! The dealer has provided a measurement, 11cm and I shall do a comparison with the Boxster later. The MOT history also threw up a lot of advisories too that may or may not have been fixed yet. Measured the height of the Boxster front end and it's about 20cm so this particular Targa's not going to work for me, shame. Can anyone advise on the height of an unmodified Targa/Carrera 997 front end? The search continues........

You'll need to consider the overhang too. Longer overhang = less ground clearance. [;)]

I need to drive forwards into my smallish garage really plus that's the reason I need a Targa, so I can climb out the roof [:)]
But if anyone could provide a measurement from the from spoiler down to the ground that would be appreciated and will save me looking suspicious at my local Porsche dealership over the weekend.

Hi Dave, is it a step up or just the angle of the drive up from the road? Might be possible to put a small concrete lead in to help? Seen this done before
 
Hi, it's just the angle off the road up onto the driveway that's the issue, not a step as such and to change it would be a major undertaking, going to get wife to drive car onto the drive later today so I can see exactly how much clearance there is. As said earlier, if anyone can measure the approx. distance of their standard 997/Targa to the ground from the front of the bumper that would be appreciated. Regards, Dave.
