Adding to Summer List;
- Complete brake fluid flush and refill
- Repair CS dash digital clock / lap timer lcd face
- Find from somewhere a pair of new'ish rear tailgate 'hockey stick' trims
- Inspect/fix steering column bush dry rubbing (noise when wheel on full lock)
- Steering fluid flush and replace
- Maybe replace carbon cannister
- Check for (fit if missing) lights on chime relay
- Eventually polish and wax!
 
Not bad. Would bet same items on ebay (as OEM) would be more expensive! My first stop for parts is always Hatfield Porsche for price (before the likes of Design911 or Porscheshop).

Brake bleed done. However, inner bleed nipples on all calipers siezed solid and didn't want to chance snapping them off. As the out bleed nipples feed off the same inner line I'll go with that - Will replace inner ones when on a ramps with better access and more time. Unable to bleed clutch slave cylinder - zero access with the starter motor in the way and car only on axle stands.

I thought I'd remove the plastic sill covers and clean up, rust proof and apply protection to the jacking points (one of those many 'while I'm in there' moments). Annoyingly, and proabably not too unexpected, some rust on the out sill bottom of 'shark fin' cover. Poked around a bit and revealed a rust hole. Spent a day scraping out all signs of corrosion from sill outer and inner cavities, power tool wire brushing, Kurusting then applying Waxoyl spray in all cavities. No doubt have the same other side of the car. Will do the same there and treat too in preventing anything getting worse. Will run as is for this summer (garaged and dry day running) and book in to Daytona Coachworks for early next year.


 
In a spare moment yesterday,finally got around to re-fixing the 2 black plastic rubbing strake ends that had come away from the 2 front wings probably due to catching the ends when washing /polishing.

1 was about 100mm at the nearside front end which I cleaned with methylated Spirits after scraping the underside clean as possible & the other the trailing edge on the offside front wing about70mm long,treated likewise-both were curled out somewhat.

Coated both surfaces with contact adhesive,then warmed each in turn with my heat gun until the plastic "relaxed " enough to let me press them back to the wing where the nearside position allowing me to use one of those clever ratchet clamps ,the other side a large welding magnet to hold each in position as the glue set properly.

Left these on overnight & today a result.

Why does my life seem to be full of these silly little jobs which once tackled,evaporate almost immediately with a good result but I can't seem to get to them all.[:mad:]
 
Blimey Colin, not heard from you in a while ;) Glad to hear the 924 is alive and well!

Did the 924 have rubber side strip protectors then?

Back in the garage in a mo to finish off one side of the car then to tackle the nearside - wonder what lurks benath those plastic covers :(

Hi Marcus,still live & kicking-both our 924S's have side black plastic strakes.

Going to R13 Curborough day as usual in June-to Donnington Park this Saturday with Nick for the Historic Racing & some PCGB coffee.

Before June,& any other track day got to fit new cambelt,offside balljoint & new steering shaft -also new wiring harness's to the E61 tailgate -tomorrow.

Keeps me off the streets.Nick's out of Porsches at present making do with a Mazda MX5 & recently acquired Mercedes CLS 350 diesel which he's had chipped-it's got massive rear tyres & go's like SOAS.

Impressed you've got the strakes on with adhesive...looked at all this and found that body shops use a 3M double sided tape. Maybe that's why they then fall off. I have to do the hockey sticks...over complicated Porsche fixings have corroded, and an R19 colleague has successfully re fixed his with Tiger Seal. Relying on Duck Tape for now...

Under achieving so far this year. November service/MoT identified driveshaft and front suspension issues, but I got distracted by the variety of alternatives to the OEM struts. Definitely a job for this summer!

We'll be at Donington too...and Curborough if I've recovered sufficiently from a hip replacement!
 
Nice one Colin. Respect to you for still using the 924 as it was meant and respect to Porsche for their endurance, day in, day out. Still using for track days those Bulgarian cart tyres? :)

Graham, same hockey stick problem as you on the 968. Unfortunately the 944 and 968 designs are slightly different in respect and I just don't have the factory volumes out there for me to sit and wait for one to turn up. Couple of the guys on rennlist swear by gluing the 4mm stud braket in place using Gorilla glue. I have a tube and have used it elsewhere (i.e. refixing my broken ST interior mirror back on the glass). Awesome strong stuff. Will look out though for Tiger seal.
