Engine mounts

Just bought 2 new hydraulic engine mounts from ECP-invoice states -fits 924S/944/968 -German manufacturer-look good quality-cost me £60 the pair inc.

However box states part no 951 375 042 04 which indicates Turbo I think-are they all interchangeable or are these uprated /better anyway?
 
The 951 part supercedes the original. Iirc the turbo mount is rubber only, not hydraulic so there might be more nvh.

When I did mine I replaced the gearbox mount at the same time.

 
To my knowledge the word supercedes means they only supply the last revision. Someone may have some new old stock somewhere though :)

 
IIRC the turbo has always had the hydraulic type engine mount, NA cars had an inferior solid type which was then deleted and the turbo Hydraulic mounts then beicame the part for all 944's....or something like that?..

Well I've emailed the manufacturer-Hamburgtechnic to see what they say.One reason they were so cheap is because I have a trade account-nominally they are nearly £60 each plus VAT-my friendly ECP staffman rounded the price down as well!

Frankly I haven't checked the OPC price but other Porsche specialists quote £37/38 ea +VAT .

I'll check with ECP later-thanks for all your comments so far.I imagine even rubber only mounts will be a big improvement on the 109K mileage originals -particularly the exhaust side one which is now letting the steering shaft brush against the exhaust header now & again.

The OE 924S ones were different I think to 944's? I'm sure I read they were solid and different somehow?

Well ECP_ say the catalogue states they are hydro-mounts-ipso facto -if my Greek is correct,oil filled.

However,Roger ,your jpeg suggests quite a difference in height-yet I can't believe the cast support legs or crossmember are different from 924S to 944.

One is different on the Turbo according to PET but I admit,I haven't sat down & produced a spreadsheet comparing them.

PET drawings aren't always to be believed ,however-the ones I have purchased have M8 tapped holes for the fixing bolts(like your jpeg,LHS),whereasthe PET drawings for all models show through bolts with nuts & washers

I did buy some Meyle ones @ £60 a pair, but then read, heard and spoke to a few people that also went cheap to then regret it and their advice was to bite the bullett

and buy OE. I decided to use Half weighted balance shafts and also was aware the engine was a big bore 105mm, and short stroke etc but I did have the knife edged crank balanced

with the flywheel and clutch cover but even still I couldn't risk fitting the cheap ones, especially after hearing many real stories that they either fail quite quick and / or cause vibrations

especially at idle.

I got a pair from USA Ebay about £300 for a pair in 2013, but the Dollar is not as good now! there doesn't seem to be any issue with any concern of a raised engine height that I know of,

unless the 3.0 Block is not as high as the 2.5? which I doubt there is any difference (Apart from the 3.0 block being lighter)

Well now fitted along with a new fuel filter & a new offside cunifer front brake pipe-the existing one almost fell apart when scraped--phew-others are OK.

Fitted by John at Unit 11Porsche-my garage is full of a utility room worktop renewal project & didn't want to struggle on the front lawn & it only took 2.5 hrs for everything .

Car is back to being like new again-it was really only the exhaust side mount that had collapsed (as per usual) -but the comparison between old & new was virtually as Roger's jpeg above.

Fastish run home at 78/79 mph showed car was transformed ,smooth ,no vibration,even at idle-I personally think using Bosch Supa 4 plugs helps with these big pot 4's.

 
Also, the fitting is the challenging thing.... I will say so be prepared for the odd swearing and skin off knuckles as the gap is smaller from removal of the old ones and fitting uncompressed new ones, carefully read the fitting instruction as over jacking up the engine can damage sensors on the bellhousing against the bulkhead.

Also, for me the exhaust had to be refitted as it sat 10mm higher and pressed on the tunnel and caused vibrations this was a bugger to work out!

 
We are considering fitting solid racing or solid rubber, not worried about vibrations, so where is the best place to buy??

 
Cater_Racer - the 9 Products semi solids are what you want.

The Meyle for £60 a pair are fluid filled but it’s watery thin and they only last a few years - ask me how I know.

I was quoted £280.25 from my OPC for 2 genuine mounts (951 part has replaced all the old solid mounts) but scored a pair of barely used ones from eBay that measure to brand new specs.

The guide in the FAQs from Alasdair is a good one - remove more physical bits but get the job done quicker and easier to line everything back up.

Obviously, I realise that because I haven’t reeled off a list of completely unrelated engine modifications there is no validity to my post but hey - what do I know.

I just had two new oil filled mounts fitted to my 2.7 by my local specialist- £300 all in with the labour. Difference is night & day - no vibration on start-up or idle and silky smooth right up the Rev range - no vibration through the gear-stick either. Definitely worth doing.
