Original Tyres

Guys, what tyre would my car have left the factory wearing ?

It was spec'd on 15" x 7" Tele's and 215/60/15 tyres.

I have seen some press photos of a car wearing Pirelli CN36 but I would have thought that tyre would be obsolete or just old by then, it was fitted to Escorts etc in the 70's

With regards to the car, it's coming together, engine, torque tube and gearbox are back in, most of the front suspension and brakes, majority of the fuel lines.

Torsion tube was the last item fitted and Spring plates, working on trailing arms at the moment, shame photobucket went AWOL .

Cheers, Paul

Last time I posted a pic from Photobucket a few weeks back, it worked for me.....still seems to, but for how long who knows?

Hi Steve, the link shows the current available tyres that Porsche recommend in the particular size/model specific.

My factory build sheet shows tyre brand as 'PIRE' which I assume is Pirelli, I have found a photo of a very very low mileage car that is apparently factory spec and it has P6's on, I would assume those were superseded by P6000's

I know it sounds sad but modern tread patterns just don't look right on old cars.

Cheers, Paul

..and they are flippin' rubbish. They were widely fitted in the 70/80s and I had them on a couple of RS Escorts and the grip, especially in the wet, was dreadful. The P6000s that someone else mentioned were pretty good, though.

Ian, they are remaking the CN36 in 175/70/13 for Escorts, will be released November I believe.

The Escort collectors/part hoarders have been stashing 30 year old CN36's, one sold on eBay at the weekend for £420, a 30 year old used tyre !

They are a lovely tread pattern though.....I know, I need to get out more.

My best guess, for others as I have already told Ruddy, is Pirelli P6 and Continental Sport Contact, for 1987-1989 model year cars. Until recently Conti offered an N marked 195/65/15 tyre too. I looked last night and Camskill only list a nasty P6000 now.

My car left the factory on P6's so I've ordered four Pirelli P6 from an Italian supplier, 215/60/15

They won't be the original pattern as that had been superseded but they will be as close as possible, they will do to stand in the garage on a carpet [:)]

Assuming anything arrives.....

Hi

Just a heads up to make sure everyone knows what is going on with the best tyres for your cars.

Pirelli have now made

185/70WR15 Cinturato CN36 N4
215/60WR15 Cinturato CN36 N4

205/50YR15 Cinturato P7 N4
225/50YR15 Cinturato P7 N4
285/40YR15 Cinturato P7

Also coming soon

205/55YR16 Cinturato P7 N4
225/50YR16 Cinturato P7 N4
245/45YR16 Cinturato P7 N4

The N4 is Porsche homologation , which means that they have been made at Porsches request. then the tyres have been tested by Porsche themselves and are tyres that they are happy to recommend. they are built to a quality not to a budget. However being reasonable i think you will agree that they are very reasonably priced

this page should have the model you are looking for on it https://www.longstonetyre...car-tyres/porsche.html and if you see any mistakes in our fitment please let us know.
