Hello

new member and first post here but many porsches over the years, currently just imported a 2014 991 GT3 (new Engine) , selling my 997 GT3 CS which was awesome and served me very well on many a track day..... had everything from 912, 996 and 997 c2 ...

so my latest has this cdr31 headunit which appears to be the basic one, it has Bluetooth for the phone but from what I read I cannot stream music, so am I right in thinking I can add a blue tooth module 3rd party like an arcam to the aux port or is there a plug in lead I can get ? been searching but cant find a definitive answer to this and would rather keep stock where I can so if it can be enabled by a dealer I would rather than on the streaming front.
The unit has a sat button on it... so is this sat radio as in America or sat nav can be loaded on it by the main dealer or coded or addon module?
Lastly I read there are android boxes which can be added to the unit and give you pcm3.1 style functionality anyone done this ? Ive been reading you can change it to pcm 3.1 anyone done this how much of a pain was it ....presume again it needs coding... there are many links on the net to this and a uk company in the uk say they do it on a 991 but then show a picture of a boxster !

thank you for any info you can give....

Hi,

Hoping I can jump in on this one, I've just parted with my 987 and shall be picking up my 981 Cayman S in the morning, at the moment it has CDR-31 with Bose and I would like to change this out for at least a PCM 3.1, I spoke to my local dealer who advised that "Second hand units do not work, as they will not code onto the vehicle. A new unit costs £3500.00 incl VAT" having looked on other forums this doesn't seem to be true although not an unsurprising response from the dealer, are you able to assist please?

That’s rubbish I didn’t end up doing it but you nned the codes you can buy on the internet for anything on the unit not originally on the car you then need your Porsche dealer to code the car and enable the things like navigation of your upgrading if you have aux phone Bluetooth already you don’t need those codes ... some on eBay come with the codes already but the dealer needs to enter those codes for the unit to properly work that doesn’t cost thousands you need a dealer with a piwis computer to code it. It’s not illegal just Porsche scuppering you if you don’t buy new

Yes but if you can buy it in uk so you have some come back you will also need to buy some wiring bits sat nav aerial extra microphone and amp agaln all available on eBay .. one of the first replies to this thread actually fitted one so might be worth messaging him he told me. A lot but I never ended up doing it

Just picking up on this thread (and have replied by PM to bryan0010065) but just to say - beware; the PCM unit linked in the post above isn't actually a navigation unit...

It's probably a Sound Package Plus module (so essentially the base unit with radio, CD and USB capability in the PCM body with better screen resolution than the CDR unit and designed to be used with the non-Bose external power amp) and it's old enough to pre-date inclusion of the Jukebox facility.

This can be a bit of a minefield until you know what you're looking at!
