Potential mouse infestation

Hi everyone,

I think a mouse may have taken up residence in my '71 911 - nibble marks in front boot carpet etc. The car is stored most of the time away from my home, I'm really keen to make sure it's gone but I'm reluctant to use posion or a trap as I don't want a dead rodent embedded somewhere in the car either.

Does anyone have any experience of ultrasonic rodent deterrents? Would seem an ideal solution yet there doesn't seem to be universal belief they actually work.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions please?
Thanks a lot
John

The ultrasonic rodent device I purchased did not deter the mice from:
Storing hazel nuts in the floor pan shields in my 993.
Or making a nice series of tunnels in the under bonnet heat insulator pad on my BMW 5 series which was in regular use.
They also nibbled some of the wiring on my 1970 911. Total cost of the damage to the BMW and 911 was just under £160.
I purchased six plastic mouse traps ( not humane traps) and bated them with bird seed. Four of these were located around the edges of the walls to my garage as mice tend to run around the edges of spaces. The other traps were placed one under each of the two Porsches. Result? I caught 28 mice in ten days. I live in the country side and the mice enter the garage looking for food and shelter particularly in the autumn and winter. If you do not kill them then you can risk a great deal of expensive damage to your vehicle. Rodent damage to a friends car stored for a few months cost him a new set of carpets for his 911 and a retrim to his rear seats.

We had them in our basement and the ultrasonic deterrents were a waste of money and time.

We now use multiple traps and are still struggling.

For what it's worth I had a Landrover Defender with mice nesting in the heater plenum (lower dash) ... we had been walking, it started to rain, we put the heater on and pushed the fan up to the windscreen, and a mouse ran across the dash. The smell was horrendous.

When we took the car in for repair they had to re-build the wiring loom and I was told that we were lucky not to have multiple electrical failures --- assuming that fuses had prevented an electrical short sparking the nesting material ...

From then on we drove the repaired car with rat poison in the roof lining ... it's a real problem if you have mice (or squirrels in some countries !)
