Not a post in our R18 section for over a month [:-]

It is the busiest time of the year and there are shows and events going on everywhere in the coming 2-3 months but our Region doesn't seem to be using the forum at all [:(] Is everything going onto Facebook now?

I know David and Mike send out emails with event lists and updates, but the Forum is a great place to see all the information archived and be able to respond and see who else is going to events. R3 use it to great effect.

On a separate note there are still 2 rooms available for our WOTY in Scotland and myself and Roy Parker were hoping these would have gone by now so we can confirm the distillery tour price for everyone who is already booked and give details of other activities planned for the weekend.

Final one from me for now. I went on the R3 post Christmas Party in January which was on a Saturday night with the Region Members meeting up at the hotel on the Saturday afternoon for drinks and a catch up and then having a Christmas themed evening meal and entertainment afterwards. Most people stayed in the hotel and it was nice to be able to have a few drinks without worrying about driving home, and then in the morning meeting everyone for breakfast before we headed off home. As we were all there together for a longer period I found that we mixed with more people and had a great time together.

Is there any interest in R18 doing a similar event this coming Christmas (or ideally in January as most people will have busy schedules coming up to Christmas) as it will allow us to get the Members from the North and South of the Region together in one centrally located venue (possibly near Kendal just off the M6) and have a great social event? If you think this is a good idea and you would like it to be considered please add your names below and hopefully David and Mike can arrange something in the coming months [:)]

Martin, your new GTS will be Carrara White metallic - like the marble! Not Carrera - like a 911!

There's a couple of other threads about the forum currently floating around, I think its current usage just reflects the growing maturity of social media generally. David and Mike communicate well with our R18 members - in person at meetings and events, by phone, via Porsche Post, the Club website, Facebook and personalised emails sent by mailchimp. I suspect if either of them needed to use the forum more to get information out then they would - from my perspective, it is now simply one of many communication tools available to the Club. Either it works well with a core of regional or register members or other channels prosper.

Liz and I would fancy an R18 overnighter at some stage.

All the best.

Thank you oh wise one for highlighting the colour of the new GTS (now updated) [;)]

I agree with you about the different mediums and I know both do a lot of emails and other forms of communication with our Members. I know a lot of the 'older' members don't use Forums or Facebook and this wouldn't work for them, but it is good to see lists being created so others know who is interested in events or meet ups. I like lists [:D]

There were a few at our meeting last night who are also interested in a Post Christmas night away (Roy & Margaret Parker and Les & Sheena Moerton) and I suspect that there will be plenty from the Garstang meeting who would also enjoy a night away. I will wait to see what David's thoughts are.

Martin,
I have always used the forum & accept that the R18 area is quiet-however so is the R5 one but the information can be found in the region heading & I like lists too.
As "older " members, regrettably my wife is not interested in R18 "life" although she has driven a Porsche now since 1982 including the 964 we had for 11 yrs-bought initially for her.So weekend overstays are not in our gift & we have the unpredictability of urgent calls up to our daughters' in Northumberland for grandparenting duties.(why I didn't attend the Cumbrian Classic )

You are correct about older people not using social media-whilst I react to Facebook etc posts I receive,I am not a fan of posting jpegs showing me putting the Xmas Turkey in the oven etc ( small dig at our lovely ,venerable Chairman)-I waste enough time on my laptop.Frankly I can't be bothered with all the fuss when adding jpegs to posts on here although I would if it were easier like an e-mail.

Other than that we both still very much enjoy our Porsche driving-I'm off to Curborough tomorrow to the R13 sprint day-weather might be interesting!
Colin.

Colin, if you can find a jpeg of me putting the Christmas turkey in the oven I will give £100 to the charity of your choice.

That's not a bad idea Martin and could work out well. Just not too sure that the middle of winter is the best time. Maybe we have a get together to celebrate something special. For example the anniversary of the region starting in 1994 and we might get some of the older members to come along and enjoy the fun or even get active within the region once more.

At the Cumbria show last month I stayed at the Castle Green Hotel just outside Kendal and they have a superb function room, good parking and lots of rooms too. Here is the website to take a peek: http://www.castlegreen.co.uk/

I would be willing to organise it if there is a taste for such an event.

I asked at the Crooklands Hotel www.crooklands.com about a Post Christmas function when we stayed over for the Show last month and they were happy to get involved and work with us. They sent me the 2017 Festive menu (see attached PDF)

Both hotels can cater for a decent party size presuming the dates are acceptable so it may be worth looking into further to gauge interest. Personally I'd go for Winter and make it a Festive event, but see what others say and would like.

Thanks Martin.

Its really up to the RO/ARO to decide and happy to follow their lead. I am a phone call or email away!

Personally I think the note Castle Green offers a better solution. Nice place and great parking.

Get on FB pal, its a great addition to the forum giving instant uploads and easy access.

Christmas bash has plenty of interest, just needs someone to make a decision and get it booked [:)]

I am asking the question in the August Porsche Post as to what members want ie Armathwaite,+ Garstang Christmas Lunches + Post Christmas Crooklands event, or just Crooklands and NOT Armathwaite or Garstang GC. So please all e-mail me back with your preserences
