Tyre pressures - do the Comfort pressures result in more wear?

i have a 991.2 S with 20 inch wheels. i also have the TPMS system. It is set to the Comfort setting and the pressures are signifcantly below those on the door panel for the standard pressures. Apparently you must not exceeed lower speed limit with these lower pressures. Does anyone know if you get more tyre wear on this setting? I'd rather run on the higer pressures with slightly bumpier ride than have more wear. With other porsches I've had it has been clear that running lower pressure causes more wear.
 
I'd definitely run them at the normal partial load setting, 2.2/2.7 bar. My car has the same rims as yours and the ride is fine, and the turn in sharp. Running lower pressures may increase wear a little and I doubt the difference in ride comfort is that noticeable. Of course the pressures rise as heat gets into them when pressing on anyway. BTW I think the lower speed limit you refer to is 165mph [:D]
 
Just a few words regarding my Cayman on 20 inch wheels. I use the comfort mode, which is 4psi below the normal setting, I've done 11500 miles and my tyres, Goodyear , are down to about 5.5 mm or so, from an initial 8 mm. On my car I do notice the difference in ride harshness , so I will continue to use comfort mode. By the way, when the tyres get hot they go up from 29 to 33 psi , which implies that they would go up to 38 psi on the normal setting, definitly creeping into "bouncy" territory.

Fill with N2, guys and your worries about erratic tyre pressures will be over. [;)]

I've tried that and I didn't seem to notice much difference. When normal air is in the tyres, it's the moisture in the air that expands the most, the actual "air" expands just as much when using nitrogen, maybe a tiny bit more, but it's unnoticeable.
Perhaps my nitrogen supplier, (Exeter OPC) , has a cylinder of wet nitrogen!

I can certainly vouch for it making a difference, both in temperature stabilisation and maintaining pressures for longer. However, the tyres need to be purged of air to be successful.
Exeter are fine for it - at least they were when Wayne ruled there.

Hi all. Have increased pressures and the ride is very slightly harsher, but PASM seems to cope fine. Dealer wasn't clear on wear, so decided to put to standard setting. Thanks everyone for your replies.
 
Stick to Porsche settings - they know best [:)] I fiddled with mine
I check every week using a hand held gauge - from when it was serviced in Feb still 34/40.
Currently on Bridgestone, however Michelin for next time.
When you get 60 stair lifts beckon [:(]



 
What are 'comfort' settings? I assume these are not advised by Porsche if they're not on there car or in the manual, so where do these come from?
 
They are only on cars with 20 inch wheels and TPMS.
You find it on the settings menu , look for TPMS and then go into that menu. If you have it it will offer you the option to change to "comfort mode"

No true to say it is only 20 inch wheels. The comfort setting also applies to 19" wheels are fitted to my 991.2. I find with our local Buckinghamshire roads the comfort setting works well but I do pump them up to standard for longer trips. Although the TPS can be set to comfort mode the Porsche Car Connect app doesn't seem to be able to follow and usually reports the tyres require 1 psi front and 4 psi rear. Cheers ChrisB
