Tyre Fitter recomendations in North Dorset?

Argh! My pet and long trusted tyre fitter has moved to pastures new!

Now what do I do? He wasn't the cheapest, but always careful, and familiar with "Secret balancing" and, well, I just know he would do a good job, every time. I could trust his advice.
The only recommended place I know, and I know people travel miles to go there, is Micheldever Tyres. Is there someone* in Dorset (or neighbouring counties) that everyone is using that I don't know about?

Thanks,

Tref.

*I would prefer one man in a shed, than a place with lots of people, or chain especially, as it is so dependent upon the person actually doing the work.

I always use Christchurch Tyres in Sommerford Tref. No, it isn't a one man band trading out of a shed but they aren't part of a chain, they have Hunter allignment and balancing m'c's (and know how to use them), and their prices are very competitive. Most importantly, they understand OCD types like you (but break them in gently before presenting them with bomber..!)

You could try Downton Tyre & Auto at Downton near Salisbury, I was pleased with them, see below...

I had new tyres/balance/tracking done on my Audi Q3 by a local Protyres branch, I wasn't happy with the balancing/tracking and after two failed attempts by Protyre I complained to BlackCircles whom I'd ordered the tyres/fitting from. BlackCircles were very good and offered to have the balancing/tracking done at a tyre fitter of my choice. I chose Downton Tyre & Auto because they were fairly local (Downton near Salisbury) and family owned so I assumed they'd be more interested in providing a good service. I was very pleased with the way they dealt with my car, first test driving it so assess the problem, then carrying out the work, and finally test driving to confirm all was well. I subsequently took my Cayman there for wheel alignment and balancing and was again pleased with the results, they also said they'd dealt with Porsches before and had been given specific settings by Porsche for the wheel alignment rather than just using the settings given on their alignment rig.

You could also try Service U Right of Shaftesbury 01747 858850 a small family firm run by Craig. I obtain all my tyres from them now inc my Boxster. They are always cheaper than the competition inc National etc

My usual tactic is to find best price on the internet then approach Dorset Discount Tyres, they often match a deal. Surprisingly down in Weymouth Kwik-Fit are competitive for my Mondeo sized tyres. Pays to shop around.

I use the place in Ferndown next to Silver Wheels, they're part of a large chain but kept their independent name but are always difficult to beat on price, they put on & take off all of the tyres from the wheels bring refurbished next door so used to dealing with new wheels.

First time I have heard Tref as an OCD type - have you seen his 944 [:D][:D]

What I usually do is get the best price from the www and then call my local PC. They usually match or get the price as near as dammit and always do a perfect job.

My tongue was firmly rooted in my cheek when I wrote that. But in Tref's defence, he knows every dent, ding, scratch, scrape, split, run, sag, crater, orange-peel patch, prime patch, duck-tape and cable-tie bodge on Bomber - and when another fault appears, there's Hell to pay!

You forgot the rust stains and rusty bits.. I know all of those too. Yes, it is all true, I don't care how old and beaten up it is, the very reason it is still alive is by being a fussy git! Thank you all folks, hopefully this will be a valuable reference for others in the future, in the meantime I am off to our friends next to Silverwheels tomorrow. See you Monday - with shiny new tyres! :)
