Many thanks Maurice, loving your work!

Let's not forget how much Porsche rely on the heritage of their back catalogue when marketing their new 718 and Speedster models, for example.

What looks like some good news today via federation of historic car clubs. 97+ octan e5 petrol will be available for at least five years from any station that currently carries two types of petrol.

Yes, I think we're safe for a good while yet.

I've just acquired an SQ2, which shares platform and engine with Golf R, Cupra Ateca and others. Looking at fuel requirements, there was a distinct sense of deja vu ..
'Unleaded fuel only RON / ROZ 98 Super Plus or min.RON / ROZ 95 Super, Premium
The use of Super Plus petrol (98 RON / 93 AKI)is recommended. If that type of fuel is not available, premium petrol (95 RON / 91 AKI) can be used with a slight loss of power.

.. 91 RON .. as an emergency measure .. moderate engine speeds and light throttle. Fill up etc etc'

There are quite a few of these engines still emerging from VAG, so longevity of Super Plus looks good to me !

Re Ethanol, EN228 standard is mandatory, up to 10% is Ok, fuel system damage will occur if E30 <> E100 used.

As I've said before, these types of issues should really be picked up at Director / Club level, but my calls have continually fallen on deaf ears !

HTH, cheers, Maurice

Hi Maurice,
I tend to agree that the club should make representations on matters like this, especially to the government consultation. 'we have xxxxx cars on our registers affected by this etc'
It looks like that's what the FBHVC did.
Cheers
Jon

This looks helpful .. https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/news/article/fbhvc-appoint-an-automotive-fuels-specialist

AFAIK Ken Coad, currently of the 968 Register, is the PCGB representative on the FBHVC .. perhaps he could take forward the PCGB concerns, although we should be a big enough club to fight our own battles and we don't JUST represent historic vehicles.

Can't stray any further ..  cheers, Maurice

Don't forget the Esso Supreme 99 RON contains no ethanol in most regions (excludes Cornwall and Scotland) and you get a discount if you use your Porsche Club Esso card.

Who doesn't read their Porsche Boast ?? Don't blame you, but Esso has been a 'members benefit' for such a long time ..

It is the evening track day at Donington May 13th ?  I see its full, is it worth going on the offchance of a session ? Maybe it is just to see & hear a CGT ripping out the tarmac !!

cheers, Maurice

Looking at that,i think i will pay at the pumps, the card is only Fee free for 6 months and all the hassle for 2p a litre.

Yes, and you struggle to find an esso . There are more Tescos selling 99 RON far cheaper than Esso price minus 2p, so it makes for a pretty dumb Member's Benefit. Dates back to Chris Seaward, IIRC ..

Stoptech is US manufacturer of performance brakes. Unusually, they do upgrade kits for most Porsches, far cheaper than even stock Brembos, with a range of options.

Do you think this constitutes electioneering ?

cheers, Maurice

The card saving was 5p per litre for quite a while. Not exactly sure when it was changed to 2p but it was earlier this year. Possibly around the time that fuel started increasing in price which was close to the time that the £ appreciated against the $. I do realise it’s not that simple...

It's Esso Supreme that is zero ethanol, even though it says E5 on the pump. E5 is the maximum it can have. I can assure you that in most areas of England (the far north and south west excluded) Supreme is ethanol free.

The good news is that 98/99 RON is often cheaper than diesel now for some reason, perhaps local storage and processing .. ie it won't last so get it while you can.

It's a lovely day for a drive anyway !! I daren't drive mine now
