I seem to recall that there is some discussion on the forum somewhere about possible warranty problems in fitting after market protective grills. Usual Porsche rubbish about overheating, considering they are standard on GT3. If this has been resolved I would be interested in getting one but as I hardly ever drive to the UK unfortunately I cannot provide a vehicle. I am forever cleaning muck from the central radiator which doesn't even have a couple of vanes there like the side ones and is completely open.

They used my 997 Turbo S as a donor car, superb job and the free set of grills looked very good, even one of the OPC salesmen said that Porsche should make them as an aftermarket item( never mentioned warranty though) .

Peter and his team were very easy do deal with and totally professional in their approach.

I would have given them my 991 4S but time got in the way.

I would be happy to use my car as a donor, as I think these grills are an oversight by Porsche. I live in Warwick which isn't too far from Cannock. How do you wish to take this forwards?

Phil

Hi Phil

That would be great if you could provide your car - it's a good deal if you are close and can afford the time.

The man to speak to is Peter Langston 01543 273642

Cheers

I've got a question - my car has the Sport Design front bumper the same as the GTS, there is no central radiator on my car just a blank black panel - does the GTS have the same or has it got a central radiator as well as the two side ones?

I've looked on the Porsche website but I can't tell.

My 991 GTS has the central radiator and sport design front bumper with the two side radiators.

I thought about the grills but I think a potential disadvantage is that fine grit etc. will still get through and stay lodged behind and then that stuff accumulating will affect cooling.

My car has done over 10k miles since December 2014, and whilst it all looks very vulnerable at the front I have not had any problems so far and it's not difficult to clear out the occasional leaves, straw that gets in there so I'm staying as per the original spec.

Adrian

I've been in touch with Zunsport, but unfortunetely for me the GTS is a better donor for the Sport Design bumper as it has the radiator in the middle and they have one lined up now, but Peter is still looking for...

Alan, that was unlucky.

Warranty seems to be an issue raised by some members but as I said I'm prepared to take the risk rather than mess about with the front.

Adrian

Yes, you are lucky. Mine was punctured on the M25 with about 8000 miles on the clock. The bill came to over £900, which imho is due entirely to Porsche's inability to provide appropriate grills. The argument about warranty claims should not be an issue - they are fitted as standard to the GT cars after all. My OPC confirmed they see a regular stream of cars requiring a replacement radiator - good for workshop business most certainly, but not customer service for such expensive vehicles. It's a design fault that would be so easy for Porsche to remedy.

I haven't seen any grills for the 991 but do know that on the 997 you could take them out from the front and clean out any debris, look at Zunsports website.

On one of my last journeys in the 991, I found a flattened coke can in my centre rad area, luckily no damage.

SteveJC

Well I'm going to get something fitted at some point, I like the way you can take the Zunsport grills off to clean out the pods, but even then it's an awkward job - why Porsche don't put a flap or something on the underside or the existing louvres easy to remove from the front so you can easily clean the crap out properly I don't know OR put a fine GT3 type mesh in front of the intakes!!!

I have the Rennline ones on my 997 GTS which are fitted from behind the air intakes and sold in the UK by Design 911. I prefer the look to the Zunsports which clip on in front of the grills.

They also sell them for the 991.1 variants ....

The Grill Set from Design 911 for the 991 model is not Rennline but a awful "Air Filter" Mesh ! Look so cheap yet so expensive.

If anyone knows where you can get Rennline for a 991 with the Design Body Kit then i'd love to hear from them

Kenny,

They are described and sold as Rennline so I would be surprised if they were not.
RENNLINE FRONT BUMPER WIRE MESH GRILL KIT 5-PIECE. PORSCHE 991/991S
Code: E156152 Rennline Front Bumper Wire Mesh Grill Kit. 5 meshes in this kit for SportDesign bumper. Fits: Porsche 991/991S cars with Sport Design bumper WITHOUT parking sensors One of Porsche’s biggest design flaws on the water cooled cars is the bumper air intakes. With the current design, the radiators are completely exposed and become magnets for road debris, leaves, and rocks. The fins on the radiator will quickly become damaged or plugged translating into big dollar repairs. The only way to stop the inevitable is to install an intake screen kit. Unlike most kits on the market, Rennline’s has a unique screw and clip system that eliminates the need to glue, drill, or use exposed hardware. Every screen is pre-molded for your specific model resulting, in a perfect fit every time. Note: Some models use clips, some models use screws and some both. Both outer grills included.

ZunSport are in need of a 991.1 GTS as a donor car - anyone interested?

If someone wants their GTS done then I can eventually get mine done a similar just no central rad.

Following a couple of visits to Zunsport I am now the owner of a set of front spoiler protective grills, zunsport have been very professional throughout the experience and the finished product of excellent quality.
