HiI'd be grateful for any feedback on home charger installers (for a Panamera Hybrid): who's reliable, efficient, and quick to respond.

I see that you have not had any replies to your question, and as it was over two months ago you may have already sorted out your home charging arrangement.

However, in case you haven't, why don't you just charge from a normal 13amp socket via the supplied charger brick and cable, as you will get a full charge in around 3-4 hours.

I took the view when I got my Panamera S E-Hybrid in November 2014 that paying for the installation of a dedicated charger with a higher charge rate (say 22kWh) would be a waste of time.

I just charge on Economy 7 tariff via a 13amp socket that is mounted on the garage wall which sits inside the charger wall box supplied with the car.

I also have a 22kWh charger on my office wall next to my parking space for charging during the day, so that I can maximise the electric usage, but I was lucky that I was having a new office constructed after I bought the car, and so had it built in at the time.

I hope this helps.

P.S. I would be interested to hear your experience of maximum charge range showing after an overnight charge, and the range you achieve in practice on the road.

Thanks for your reply. Like you, I came to the conclusion that a fast charger was not worth the expense and disruption, so I now charge the battery overniight as you do. I also have a proprietary cable to use public charge points - there are some at my gym. But it's reassuring to know I'm not out on a limb on my own!

I've not made a scientific study of the accuracy of the range indicator, but it looks as though the indicated range declines by about two miles for each mile travelled. Let's hope the new model this Autumn is better, and they give us an option to upgrade at a not-too-extortionate price.

It sounds as though we have a very similar arrangement of charging in the garage at home and using a Type 2 cable where possible outside.

You may be interested to note that I have recently had a problem with my original EVConnectors cable I used predominantly at my office.

It was fine for a year then developed a sporadic fault of not completing the 'handshake' with the car when plugged in, and thus refusing to allow the car to charge. This was happening about 10-15% of the time, and having had Porsche Sutton Coldfield check the car over, and EVConnectors check the cable (said it was okay and wouldn't swap it even though it was only a few weeks out of warranty) I have had to buy another cable.

On the range issue, my experience is different.

If the car says 13 miles at full charge, although it drops to say 10 very quickly it recovers to do around 12 miles before running out of charge.

Thus I am getting close to the total miles showing when charged fully.

However, I have been robustly questioning my Porsche Centre as to why the full charge level is running at an average of about 12 miles.

If the car is supposed to do 20-22 miles on a full charge; surely it should show this level on the dash display.

Whether you could achieve that level would be down to driving style and/or the number of energy sapping things such as air conditioning, that you had running.

The best average full charge level over a month is between 12 & 15 miles depending largely on the ambient temperatures.

I have said to the garage that it is like having a 20 gallon fuel tank but only being able to put 12-15 gallons in it.

My local Porsche Service Manager says he has taken this up with Porsche HQ but cannot get a satisfactory answer !!

Do you have any views/observations on this sort of issue?

Thanks for the warning about the cable!

I was interested to hear of your experience when driving on battery, which mirrors mine. Taking a leaf out of your book, I've now emailed Porsche Glasgow (where I bought the car) asking why I can't achieve anything close to the advertised 20-mile range, and will let you know what they say. If we can't get satisfactory answers from our respective dealers individually, it might be worth using the Owners' Club forum to find out how other Hybrid owners are getting on, and taking up the issue with Porsche through the Club if we can round up enough owners - united we stand, etc.

[font="times new roman,times"]The Porsche website says the Hybrid will do approximately 22 miles on a full charge in NEDC (my emphasis). NEDC is the New European Driving Cycle. Here's an extract from Wikipedia: [/font]

It consists of four repeated ECE-15 urban driving cycles (UDC) and one Extra-Urban driving cycle (EUDC).[/font]

[font="times new roman,times"]In other words, the car was never going to do 22 miles in the real world, only in the make-believe world of the NEDC.[/font]

[font="times new roman,times"]Porsche Glasgow reckoned that the range shown in the range indicator is probably based on the trip computer's memory of the actual range you've achieved. It would be interesting to see whether, if you reset the trip computer, it would show 22 miles on a full charge before going back to 12 miles after a few days. I haven't tried it yet.[/font]

Hi, just seen your posts and have read with interest. I also decided to stick with a 13amp socket and use the wall charger supplied. I typically get around 12 miles range from the battery which is a little disappointing, I haven't managed to better 14 miles. Will be interesting to see if the trip reset makes a difference to what the cars "brain" estimates the range to be!

Have you experiend any hybrid system faults with your car? I have on two occasions had a yellow fault warning which put the car into limp mode, once the car is restarted its fine and no errors are logged.

[font="times new roman,times"]Recently when the battery was low, I had two warnings displayed - 'lane change assist not functioning' and 'headlight beam adjustment defective, service needed.' Turning the engine on and off made no difference, so I called out Porsche Assist (aka the AA, to whom the call was referred by PA) who came the following morning, by which time the battery was fully charged again and the warnings had disappeared; the engineer found no faults and reckoned the messages were down to the low battery. Seems as though the complicated electronics come with the usual gremlins. Moral - don't let the battery power get too low if you're going to need the lane change assist or drive at night.[/font]

 
Different matter - Pan Turbo done 86K and getting thump from front nearside suspension. USA forums suggest replace or oil as gets dry. However local Porsche dealer says they have replaced suspension on a number of Pan Turbos but thump (bang) comes back and reading between the lines looks like a fault from the design of the suspension!

Anyone had this and got a cure?
