From my handbook ... Universal audio interface. Also available as an option is the universal audio interface. This enables you to connect your iPod®, a USB stick/MP3 player or any other compatible audio source of your choice. The iPod® or USB stick can be operated conveniently and safely via PCM.

I have tried inserting a usb stick into the socket provided, which is usually used for iPhone charging etc. I assumed that I could play music mp3 files from it but maybe not, as there doesn't seem to be a way of selecting it from PCM 3. Anyone played mp3 files other than from CD unit?

997 Gen II, I mainly use MP3 from a USB stick for music. It will not play other formats WMA etc. You can try my USB stick on the Swanage trip. Nick

I've just got a 997.2 with PCM 3. I initially connected my iPhone using the USB only - no joy. I've since obtained the 30 pin connection cable from Porsche (and a 30pin to lightening converter from Apple) - it has a round connector and a USB. Plug them both in and hey presto! It all works a charm. I've heard a rumour also that if you get the firmware upgrade on the PCM 3, then you no longer need the special ipod cable and your regular Apple cable with do just fine. Unfortunately I think the upgrade charge includes the usual Porsche Tax. I will investigate this further this weekend.

The choice is always good. Anyway all sorted. The fancy USB stick I was using is the Porsche 918 model car version and guess what? You have to insert it upside down so wheels up, only Porsche could come up with that!

I had similar problems, but found that the only USB the unit would recognise was a Sandisk unit, since I have loaded all the music on this, it runs fine and gives you the option of USB.

Perhaps Alan, we’ll have to become the “ Official Advert Police” , or in acronym terms “O.A.P.s”
